I do know that mastodon has the ability to move between instances. Export and import feature plus announcement. https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2019/06/how-to-migrate-from-one-server-to-another/

But for some reason isn't yet implemented in both lemmy and kbin.

I'm trying to aim for the Framework Laptop 16. Coming out soon. Should be very modular.

melroy,
melroy avatar

Exactly!! I also want to run Linux only on this laptop. Just like on all my machines at home.

melroy,
melroy avatar

Nice :) I'll keep us all posted about this upcoming 16" version.

Talking about the devil.. 🎂 I just received an email for pre ordering.

Owno.. the price tag... :\

YSK that a lot of common questions/complaints about Lemmy are presently answered by kbin (kbin.social)

This is not an attempt to convert Lemmy users, nor is it a slight on Lemmy. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why Lemmy works better for some, and I love the fact that we not only have multiple choices, but multiple choices that allow us to interact with each other regardless! It's amazing. Lemmy is great, no shade....

melroy,
melroy avatar

Highly sophisticated! Nobody should have access to this kind of technology!

😜

melroy,
melroy avatar

Otherwise your qbits go from stereo to mono.

YSK: Imagus is Hover Zoom for Lemmy that actually works (addons.mozilla.org)

On desktop Hover Zoom is life changing way to browse memes and gifs. One thing I struggled with when I moved to Lemmy was Hover Zoom support. While it worked with imgur links, these are few and far between. I had given up hope when I finally discovered Imagus works perfectly.

@interestingasfuck should become more popular for sure IMO.

I'm not stopping you from starting new magazines.

melroy,
melroy avatar

Then I forbid you to create new magazines.

Codeberg Action runners are now increased to 3 runners.

melroy,

It's important not to force this. Not all cats like to get pet either. Especially with cats you need to respect their choice and space if they require that.

But eventually they hopefully will go on your lap.

melroy,
melroy avatar

Maybe we should implement a new feature to add a filter to filter-out only threads from magazines your subscribed to. Or only see threads from users you follow. Or both.

melroy,
melroy avatar

Sorry to hear your struggles with the sign-out issue. Yesterday there was a cookie clean-up. But I think it happens way more than just once in a while.

Hopefully you do click the remember login button?

melroy,
melroy avatar

That is indeed strange. This is an unofficial bot. Maybe contact the developer @rikudou@lemmings.world?

melroy,
melroy avatar

Ow wait you are! 😑😅! How do you posts those replies? Are you using an Api from Lemmy?

melroy,
melroy avatar

Ok. My suspicion is that bot account only post locally within that instance and doesn't federate the message. Maybe to avoid spamming the fediverse? Maybe ask the Lemmy devs.

melroy, (edited )
melroy avatar

ow wait..! I know.. It's because Lemmy uses type 'Service' for the bot accounts. We will try to treat both user and service types the same in the near future.

Chozo, to kbinMeta

I just got logged out. Logged back in, and found a freshly-upgraded magazine search. Sick!

melroy,

@Chozo But wait.. there is more ;)

melroy,
melroy avatar

Also the 'upload file' doesn't do anything, also that is not just you.

TIL Lemmy has an XSS vulnerability in the tagline, the sidebar and in the legal information field - sh.itjust.works (sh.itjust.works)

DO NOT OPEN THE “LEGAL” PAGE — lemmy.world is a victim of an XSS attack right now and the hacker simply injected a JavaScript redirection into the sidebar. It appears the Lemmy backend does not escape HTML in the main sidebar. Not sure if this is also true for community sidebars....

Do you upvote your own posts and comments? (kbin.social)

Since on most fediverse instances you don't automatically upvote your own comment, do you do it manually? What's considered "proper etiquette"? Because on Reddit your stuff is self-upvoted automatically, while in YT comment sections comments with 1 like sometimes get called out for liking their own comment. Do we have an...

That is only way I get karma. lol

Semmelstulle, to kbinMeta
@Semmelstulle@kbin.social avatar

Is it just me or does the Lemmy community actively ignoring the existence of kbin? I see a lot of posts explicitly mentioning Lemmy users but only posts from kbinners mention both platforms.

melroy,
melroy avatar

@Semmelstulle What is Lemmy? 😂

melroy,
melroy avatar

@Semmelstulle I'm joking. I'm a kbin developer.

/kbin project management costs, financing, future plans (kbin.social)

I wrote the first line of code for /kbin on January 14, 2021. Around this time, I started working remotely and decided that the time I used to spend commuting to the office would be devoted to /kbin. Throughout this entire period, /kbin has been a hobby project that I developed in my free time. It was also when Lemmy started...

Kbinicons Part 3 is here: 19 EU flags in two different styles each + a psd file to generate small instance logos for separate kbin instances (kbin.social)

Hi everyone, I’m back with another kbin icon pack. This time it’s flags for 18 EU countries (the non-fancy ones) + an EU flag. So 38 icons in total. All icons come in two styles: semi-transparent/glassy and opaque metallic. I also made a simple instance logo generator....

melroy,
melroy avatar

@noughtnaut Pop quiz question back. How many flags are inside the flag of Norway, (excl. the flag of Norway itself). Bonus points: name the countries! Tip: This question may or may not contain misleading clues.

melroy,
melroy avatar

Well. we need to start from somewhere, on kbin.social there is: @gardening@kbin.social and @diy@kbin.social. Both should become more active. Just follow and post something I would say :)

melroy,
melroy avatar

On Lemmy you have @gardening@lemmy.world and @diy@beehaw.org

melroy,
melroy avatar

And what about: @permaculture@lemmy.world or @homeimprovement@lemmy.world

melroy,
melroy avatar

well.. The community is as strong as it's people. I'm not going back to Reddit. That is for sure.
