Drusas ,

I love this movie and have seen it many times, but I'm not sure rewatching it makes it all that much different. Do you have any examples to share?

Drusas ,

Just FYI, the striped pole attached to the hydrant is so it can be found under snow.

Drusas ,

It's not as though they're not given the opportunity to become a state. They have voted in the past for things to stay as-is. If I recall, it was a pretty close vote, however.

Drusas ,

Sounds like he might not necessarily have intended to kill himself so much as to just burn the house down.

Drusas ,

Given the way it is portrayed on the news, I thought it already was practically leveled. Or does this mean extra leveled? Like salt the earth.

Drusas ,

Okay, but to be fair, school does not teach about taxes.

Probably because if they did, they would have a neverending supply of rebellious little adults on their hands, from either side of the political sphere.

This is not very helpful when you're making little cog workers and soldier yes men.

Drusas ,

Yeah, but once you get them a few years older, you need to start explaining the less useful things taxes go into and how divisive the entire topic is.

Drusas ,

You don't fucking say.

It's almost like switching from monarchism and aristocracy to oligarchism and capitalism didn't really change much of anything. I'm very shocked.

Drusas ,

It's better not to rinse chicken before cooking. Droplets can contaminate nearby surfaces.

Drusas ,

It appears to just be in the sink, but fine droplets can travel farther than you would think.

Drusas ,

Your average Democrat is unlikely to be supportive of this. And just like your average voter of any political leaning, they're even more likely to be unaware of it.

Drusas ,

All these years, I've been expecting China to kick off World War III, and here we are now with it looking like it'll be Russia or Israel. That's not to say China's not still in the running, but how things have changed.

Drusas ,

I am, but I probably shouldn't be. My organs are...not in the best shape.

Drusas ,

Your lungs have a best buy date. Good luck! Oh, and your new pancreas? Fuggetaboutit.

Drusas ,

She's got nothing on Weird Al Yankovic. Or Bjork, but I wouldn't call much of her music pop.

Drusas ,

Lucky. I've only had that happen once, but I've got shipped a bad motherboard twice over the years.

Drusas ,

You must be young. There was a huge pushback against soy from conservative and insecure male type people for a while. Also some of the hippie types. It was a weird combination, but I guess not dissimilar from the anti-vax types of today.

Drusas ,

Thrift shops and used furniture stores. Buying a quality piece of furniture second-hand is the only way to get it for a good price.

Drusas ,

I don't know if I could ever deal with (American) upstairs neighbors again in my life. The percentage of inconsiderate people meeting the percentage of multi-family housing with basically no soundproofing is a recipe for sleeplessness and rage.

Drusas ,

I prefer to live in the middle of nowhere(ish) aside from the conservative culture which inevitably comes with it. I also like walkable city areas. I completely hate anything in between.

Drusas ,

Good song, but the rest of the album is better.

Drusas ,

For anyone else who sees the title and wonders, "WTF is a Citadel cadet?", the article does not say.

Drusas ,

That is practically the perfect example of a good act which is also an act of harm reduction.

Drusas ,

Mr Giuliani valued his home in Palm Beach at $3.5m in previous court filings.

Right, because living somewhere that doesn't cost millions of dollars equals being homeless.

Go rent a trailer home, Rudy.

  • Utah basketball team’s experience in Coeur d’Alene shows history of racism still ‘very much alive’ in North Idaho ( www.spokesman.com )

The Utah team was staying at the Coeur d’Alene Resort after it was selected to play in the NCAA Tournament hosted by Gonzaga University. As team members walked from the hotel to a downtown restaurant, they were followed by a driver in a truck who was shouting racial slurs at them....

    Drusas ,

The culture in Idaho is such a shame. It's a really beautiful state, especially up north (where most of the Nazis are).

Canada Had Designs on Being a Hydro Superpower. Now Its Rivers and Lakes Are Drying Up. ( www.wsj.com )

Canada bet heavily on hydro as a means of cleaning up its carbon footprint; it is the third-largest hydroelectricity producer in the world. But with the climate becoming markedly drier in recent years, Canada’s utilities are now investing hundreds of billions of dollars to diversify their grids, in some cases leaning on power...

It has always blown my mind that they leave all their shit and garbage up there. Any and all responsible hikers, backpackers, and mountain climbers have a "pack it in, pack it out" policy. It's the norm. Yeah, packing shit sucks, but you love nature, so you deal with it.

    Drusas ,

Oh, I get that. But if it's not something you're willing and able to deal with, then you shouldn't be going up there to begin with.

    Drusas ,

I have a number of friends and former guildies who went back to play the classic game. I can't say that I wasn't a little tempted because I loved it back then, but I really wish that they would just stop beating this dead horse.

    Drusas ,

The article states that it has already happened in China and Korea, but not previously in Japan.

    Drusas ,

    We all do it.

    Drusas ,

Jesus, someone get that kid to a doctor.

Tons of small towns rely on their local dollar stores.

America’s Magical Thinking About Housing: The city of Austin built a lot of homes. Now rent is falling, and some people seem to think that’s a bad thing ( www.theatlantic.com )

If you want to understand America’s strange relationship with housing in the 21st century, look at Austin, where no matter what happens to prices, someone’s always claiming that the sky is falling....

Those are the same people who told my generation that we would all be failures if we didn't pay tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a college degree, so my sympathies are limited.

Is there any medicine that can give me happy hormones and does not need a doctor's prescription?

Things are becoming more depressing every day and I can't afford for professionals and don't want to jump to the last resort or drugs. Is there a medicine that can make me happy if I take it in proper doses and does not require a doctor's prescription?

    Drusas ,

I've heard of the "runners' high", but even as someone who used to be very athletic, all I ever got was the "runners' 'please fucking kill me right now so I never have to do that again'".

    Drusas ,

This is a drug, which OP said they're avoiding. It's also potentially dangerous.

    Drusas ,

Wow, did you miss the point. Yes, I was pointing out that ephedrine--a medication--is a drug.

And no, it is not as safe as you make it out to be. I have both "done my research" and spoken with a couple of physicians about it.

    Drusas , (edited )

Yeah, that's why I made fun of you suggesting I do my own research.

You have completely misunderstood this entire conversation. I just said that medications are drugs. Are you high? Is that why you can't figure out basic statements?

If so, that's fine, you're welcome to be high, but you might want to stop commenting on the internet.

Android users who have a keen eye for design and detail, how is the whole stutter/lag situation? Esp. after a few years of use?

I haven't used an Android device since my last one, the Galaxy S8. Beautiful hardware, beautiful design, but it was plagued with animation stutters and dropped frames. I switched to an iPhone and an iPad around 6 years ago. And the animations were buttersmooth. It was almost unthinkable to achieve such a fluid interface on any...

    Drusas ,

I had problems with my Pixel 5 crashing all the damn time but haven't had any issues with the 6 (or when I had the 4).

    Drusas ,

None of my millennial friends use TikTok to begin with. Seems more Gen Z.

    Drusas ,

Oh sure, this is obviously extremely anecdotal. I am on the closer to Gen X side of millennial, so I'm sure that will impact my experience as well. And then, of course, there are always outliers.

    Drusas ,

Oh my god, is that a thing that happens? That sounds horrible.

    Drusas ,

Answering the phone. Listening to voicemails.

There's no reason I should fear these now, but I was hit by a car back when I was in college (nearly 20 years ago now), and I had no health insurance and couldn't pay any bills. I was already barely affording to eat.

So, almost every single call I got was related to a bill that I knew I couldn't pay. And they were relentless. The trauma of that has stayed with me to this day and I will often leave voicemails which are perfectly innocuous unlistened to for days, weeks, eternity....

That kind of stress just stays with you.

This also extends to opening the mail.

I appreciate that earnest made a post yesterday, or maybe it was the day before, saying that he is not dead and hasn't given up on kbin. It's not on this magazine, so I'm not sure where it was since this seems to be the most appropriate one, but in any case....
