Sucks for the locals. I dunno, do they just need to decrease the people going in, in total, or do they just need to set up a bunch of better public picture spots so everyone can take their little picture of the mona lisa?

Construction of the mesh net which will be 2.5m (8ft) and 20m (65.6ft) - or the same length as a cricket pitch - will begin as early as next week, the official told AFP.

2.5m, yes...but one has the 3m selfie stick.

pycorax ,

Isn't the point to ruin the view with the net? A longer stick ain't gonna help here.

daltotron ,

The article said that a lot of their problems came from people snapping photos and getting up on buildings and stuff. I dunno how an 8 meter high net would prevent that course of behavior either, to be honest.

The photo is already ruined by the market in front. People for some reason want the convenience store and the mountain in the same shot

ninjakttty ,

The article addresses this specifically, it’s not ruined because of the market, people want the market in the shot. “The juxtaposition of the soaring volcano and the banal sight of one of Japan's most ubiquitous shops have made Fujikawaguchiko a popular location for photos”

Moonrise2473 ,

Yes I mean, having a store in the photo, for me it's ruined. Instead they like it more lol

I picked a really bad time to visit Japan for the first time. To anyone Japanese reading this, I promise to be respectful.
