Reddit is licensing its content to Google to help train its AI models (www.engadget.com)

Google has struck a deal with Reddit that will allow the search engine maker to train its AI models on Reddit’s vast catalog of user-generated content, the two companies announced. Under the arrangement, Google will get access to Reddit’s Data API, which will help the company “better understand” content from the site....

Awesome so we gonna have a sarcastic bot that speak in memes

Infomaniak kdrive is open source*

  • = it's using onlyoffice web version + their desktop clients and mobile clients, which is AGPL 3 but it's not really a community effort like LibreOffice, rather a commercial product
Moonrise2473 ,

But that's because, in average, Chinese parents always want the top for the kid. Private school, private afterschool, piano lessons, other stuff.

I know many Chinese parents that are living paycheck to paycheck because they need (want) to pay for all the private education because they need to prove that their kid has no wasted potential.

In contrast, for example, we Italians we are "public school sucks but it's free so that's ok for the kid"

Moonrise2473 ,

I'm guessing the message has been deleted via imap and so, that message doesn't exist anymore, and all you can see is a locally cached copy on the (web?)client

During the Sanremo italian music festival, a Singer said "stop genocide"

Immediately the Israeli embassador tweeted "it's shameful that the stage was exploited to spread hatred"

And all the (far right) government people followed with "we express our solidarity with the Israeli people", with a mandatory letter read by the host during a Sunday show.

First, the singer literally just said "stop genocide" without mentioning the country. There are so many genocides happening right now. Sudan, Armenia, Ukraine. You think it's talking about your country because it's doing that?

Second, how saying "don't kill each other" is "spreading hatred"

Third, it was really shameful that in the letter that the host was forced to read there was solidarity only to the Israeli people and not the other people that is still being bombed right now. It's because they're dark skinned and poor, so we're not caring about them?

Moonrise2473 ,

Seems weird that iran would decide to ban newer iphones but not the older ones. Meaning people would be stuck indefinitely on older, vulnerable and exploitable version of ios

Moonrise2473 ,

I didn't read the "critic" part and I was hoping it was about Putin bruised body in a morgue... 😢

Moonrise2473 OP ,

Wow, this sucks.

Not for this app because anyway it looks like it's not working on Android 14, but because shady apps can reliably track installs, uninstalls and so on.

Moonrise2473 OP ,

I was happy that finally Google after android 10 returned an invalid IMEI to all those apps that asked the phone permission for fingerprinting reasons (almost all the Chinese apps like WeChat, taobao, amap, Baidu, required the phone permission and if you denied it, they directly sent you to the uninstall page), then left this huge unpatched & unpatchable hole that doesn't even require a specific permission...

At work i use a $800 proprietary shit software that has a 70% chance of crashing when printing (so it crashes when job is done)

So I got used to Ctrl+S every. Single. Sentence.

Windows 10 home loves to automatically reboot to install the fucking updates IMMEDIATELY. RIGHT. NOW. And Microsoft pushed some big update just a few days ago. When LibreOffice crashes usually there's a recovery feature. It's windows. Windows wanted to install the fucking updates and it told LibreOffice to gracefully close RIGHT NOW, and NO, THE USER DOESN'T WANT TO SAVE, the user wants to get updates immediately ASAP

Btw automatically saving is a generally undesirable feature as it could reduce the lifetime of ssds, slowdown the system if the file Is big or stored on slow media like network.

Moonrise2473 ,

There are games like "Control" that are guaranteed to be dead in 5 years max as they're glorified remote play solutions. The game is playing on someone else's computer and streamed to the switch. So the bill for that computer is paid by new sales like a Ponzi scheme. No more sales = the dev turns off their servers = no more playing

Moonrise2473 ,

Really impressive. Some of them are really hilarious like the one where the living plastic chair emerges from sand

Or the creepy grandma's birthday

Has Gboard started changing languages by itself for anyone?

I've been using gboard for a very long time and I use it in four total languages. English is my second language, and my second keyboard setting, one which I use very rarely because I usually type in English using my native Polish setting (with multilanguage input enabled)....

Moonrise2473 ,

i have it set as en+it and i don't have this issue. But i disabled the english only keyboard as i don't have use for a single language keyboard

Moonrise2473 ,

People like this are pro-palestinian just because they're against Israel. If hypotetically it was arabs vs arabs they wouldn't care less.

Moonrise2473 ,

While I agree with what you say, the article is not talking about Russian citizens, but it's the Russian government being an asshole like Belarus did: they let migrants fly into Russia from Morocco, Kenya or Yemen, then they're pushing them to the Estonian border just to give them pressure. Using innocent people as a destabilizing weapon

Moonrise2473 ,

Why do you need a database? If you want a blog or something that's the same for all the visitors you can use a static site generator

Moonrise2473 ,

Netflix updated the credit with his name? Thought they would ignore it until S3 as they would need to pay an editor to fix that.

Moonrise2473 ,

I'm shocked to see that this useless single use app has been downloaded 100k+ times on the play store. I never in my life had thought "uhm is this HDMI cable legit? Let's download a specific proprietary app to verify the barcode"

But at the same time i would never bought those overpriced "ultra certified cable". If it works then it follows the specs, if it doesn't work, i return it to the seller. Paying 10x or more for having an "ultra certification" sticker on the box seems audiophile bullshit

Moonrise2473 ,

End the sanctions which are just punishing the citizens and not the government but in this case they stole from the poor to sell back to the poor

Moonrise2473 ,

You download the iso from microsoft.com then if the watermark really bothers you, get massgrave from GitHub (also Microsoft)

Nowadays getting a pre cracked copy of windows is a security issue, also don't work really good as many times is the enterprise version tied to some online KMS that would 100% go offline someday

Moonrise2473 ,

i mean hosted on github, bandwidth/compute paid by microsoft

Moonrise2473 OP ,

Protip: if a field doesn't populate, right click on it, then choose "copy name for bitwarden" (or something like that, not using FF in English), then add a custom field in the CC entry in bitwarden using that name in the clipboard. From now on on that specific page it will work

Moonrise2473 OP ,

You joke but back in the 90s when I first used the internet in the library I had to choose a password for the email. And the requirements were weird. Needs to be an exact length, letters, numbers, and so on. Then I realized my country SSN was a perfect match with the requirements! "Wow that's perfect, so I gonna use that as a password, nobody gonna guess that" - the naïve boy thought. Of course it was hacked by some other classmate that got the same conclusion and I realized that it wasn't that perfect and that almost everyone had the same idea due to the strict exact length requirements. (SSN in my country can be easily found again if you know name and DOB)

Moonrise2473 ,

Bothers me, it's useless to get 90 hz refresh rate if i see flickering on grey background when scrolling

Moonrise2473 ,

I am not saying that the image is to be trusted, but "Win32/Wacatac.B!ml" is just a generic name for anything obfuscated by vmprotect. Most cracks are detected as "Win32/Wacatac.B!ml"

Also, because it's detected by microsoft defender itself, if they really had a malicious intent, they would have whitelisted those executables in the disk image.

Moonrise2473 OP ,

Now i'm getting tons of "Dear SPAM_URL, thanks for confirming your attendance at the conference"...

Moonrise2473 OP ,

luckily it's a random number that the spambot inserted in the form

Moonrise2473 OP ,

it's a valid name but it shouldn't add the hyperlink.... wait a moment....

*** went to check the source of the emails that i received ***

the senders (i'm targeted by an asshole that did this on hundreds on sites) DIDN'T add any hyperlink, this is a huge security issue by gmail: they're automatically adding hyperlinks! This is very stupid, especially with the new google domains .zip and .mov. Someone sends an email like "attached there's bank-statement.zip" and then gets phished

Moonrise2473 OP ,

but even in the early 2000s nobody called their kid zombo.com

Moonrise2473 OP ,

I guess they need a deposit of like $100 as "inactivity fee" in order to get those $64k

Moonrise2473 OP ,

only thing the telemetry is used in this printer is nice graphs on the app, but the same can be done locally from the embedded web server at the printer ip address

Moonrise2473 OP ,

this bit about "reporting unknown quantities of data back to hp" let me remember a "cool" feature of the printer. HP takes back the cartridges for free, even sends back the recycling company at their expense, but then the fine print says:

The HP cartridges used with this product contain a memory chip that assists in the operation of the product.

In addition, this memory chip collects a limited set of information about the usage of the product, which might include the following: the date when the cartridge was first installed, the date when the cartridge was last used, the number of pages printed using the cartridge, the page coverage, the printing modes used, any printing errors that might have occurred, and the product model. This information helps HP design future products to meet our customers' printing needs.

HP collects a sampling of the memory chips from cartridges returned to HP's free return and recycling program (HP Planet Partners: www.hp.com/recycle) .

The memory chips from this sampling are read and studied in order to improve future HP products. HP partners who assist in recycling this cartridge might have access to this data, as well.

nice data exfiltration program!

Everyone with a brain: "Yes this company that doesn't even read basic rules of a forum, wastes company time on spamming everywhere with dubious results as they're going to be banned in a few hours is perfect for getting confidential data for my company!"

Moonrise2473 ,

This is huge and not like what happened last month.

Last month they removed access to "Deadly Dentists | Season 1" and similar shows that are also broadcasted 24/7 everywhere on TV, so not too many people "purchased" them.

But for anime the chance that a big fan is losing access to a massive collection of titles paid thousands of dollars is much higher.

Sony didn't learn from the backlash that happened less than two months ago?????

Moonrise2473 ,

That's the main issue of using analytics and telemetry on something that's used by power users: most of them disable/block them, so the real reported usage is much lower

Moonrise2473 ,

google is scared about the new voice mode of chatgpt app, which is very impressive and is much much better than google assistant.

also chatgpt in voice mode is hilarious, can see very easily that they stole text from subs from youtube or torrented movies, sometimes when you're completely silent it understands that you just said "subtitles created by amara.org" or "subtitles from QTSS" or "if you liked this, please join and subscribe to the channel" - because in the thousands of torrented movies with the fansubs that they used for training, the credits for the fansub group are playing when there's silence, so the AI is trained that silence = "subs created by zeroranger.uk"

Moonrise2473 ,

Cool, I wonder the pricing.

I feel like holoiso would be better for this, but maybe in this way it would entice more devs?

Moonrise2473 ,

It really surprised me that they're based in Italy.

Between all the Western countries it's the stupidest one to base a VPN company. The management risks prison time for little gain, why not Cyprus or the Caribbean like anyone else? Open a shell company in the Bahamas and still operate from Perugia if they really like to live in the Italian countryside

Italy is a country controlled by copyright trolls, for an Italian citizen using them as a piracy VPN is an insane idea, why not just be unprotected at that point?

It's almost like choosing China or Russia as base

Moonrise2473 ,

I think it needs to be done by the operating system, extensions nowadays don't have the permissions to do that.

When I was using MacOS it automatically extract zipped files and I hated it so much, you accidentally click on a link, it automatically saves in download and automatically unzip it, leading to too much trash in downloads...

Moonrise2473 ,

LOL meanwhile even if I have a 4k monitor I still choose 720p to save space and have quantity over quality

Moonrise2473 ,

15k seems like a Dacia Duster. That isn't considered a SUV according to the limits of that law (1400 kg)

It's more to limit those useless monsters like the range Rovers

Moonrise2473 ,

i guess it's an opel mokka, which is a fatter opel corsa with the same specs except being heavier and less efficient

Moonrise2473 ,

For electric vehicles the weight needs to be over 2000kg in order to be considered a SUV
