It is a great resource but? it caps out at the Wii era so... not for this case.

How is the piracy experience on an iPad ?

So I am planning on buying an ipad, never owned one before. I have always been an android guy and from what I have heard Ipad os or ios is pretty restrictive in nature so I was wondering how much does it hamper the piracy experience. For example on android I can torrent files of any nature or size without any restrictions and...

wolfshadowheart ,

You can e.g. connect it to a PC, use it as a second monitor and as a drawing tablet for photoshop.

This is interesting. What kind of software on PC or just pretty native?

wolfshadowheart ,

The idea is that agency is under duress/not coming from a sound state of mind

wolfshadowheart ,

In this regard it's about the ability to pirate, which always comes down to the classic "it's a service issue."

The need for pirating this software wouldn't exist if the license check wasn't broken, but since it is, it's now the only way to access it regardless of your ownership or not.

Louis Rossman/FUTO's YouTube app, GrayJay, now supports Sponsorblock... and shames you if you use it

Seriously this was very surprising. I’ve been experimenting with GrayJay since it was announced and I largely think it’s a pretty sweet app. I know there are concerns over how it isn’t “true open source” but it’s a hell of a lot more open than ReVanced. Plus, I like the general design and philosophy of the app....

Do these particular advertisers asks the influencers to show their statistics?

I mean, wouldn't the creator have to take a screenshot and send that info in? How do the advertisers even know people are skipping through sponsored segments?

Also I've never understood. I'm not going to buy a subscription service because someone I watch is offering it. If I want it I'm going to buy it regardless whether I've seen its ad or not, and the creators are just offering a discount code that can help them as well.

Lost views is not lost sales. That's just stupid.

wolfshadowheart ,

You also don't have to set it up to skip automatically, it will play through with a popup option to skip.

No translucent Steam Deck OLED for me. Oh well. Guess this means I’ll have to wait for a purple translucent case to mod it with.

wolfshadowheart ,

@film_girl congrats! I had something similar happen. Got gutted at one point, but then kept pushing and feel like I got lucky! Started at 10a and completed it at 11:26a. trying the whole time lol

@Mad_typist

wolfshadowheart ,

Don't you remember that 2 weeks of astroturfing talking about how great New World was?

wolfshadowheart ,

It's usually in the network settings of the torrent client. Usually listed with "IP interface binding" or some such.

Qbittorrent has it as a dropdown menu with a list of available IP's to use, as well as an option to set it manually.

GTA 6’s Publisher Says Video Games Should Theoretically Be Priced At Dollars Per Hour (www.forbes.com)

While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two.

wolfshadowheart ,

It definitely should not. Gamers use it because there are a range of genres of game. JRPG's ala Monster Hunter and Disgaea are pretty much a 300 hour minimum. There is no way GTA ever produces something worth 300 hours of gameplay, the closest they've gotten is their Online versions which frankly, would be horrible if they were priced per hour.

Racing games would have very little merit in price per hour. Sports games probably in between.

Then there's the whole fact that pacing can be implemented at the whims of the creators. It takes 4 hours to get energy so you can continue? Well, that 4 hours of paid playtime baybee, payyup!

How about games with little to no story? Should the new CoD only be $25 because it's campaign sucks? It's short after all. Or will they try and include multiplayer time, you know, something independent and timeless. Will they become arcades and start charging you per round?

Horrible, horrible idea. No matter hour you look at it, hours per game are only good for gamers with specific intentions, be it their limited time, their desire to 100%, or to see if it simply respects their time in the first place.

wolfshadowheart ,

It gets more complicated if someone is double-natted (CG/NAT) unfortunately.

wolfshadowheart ,

The first season was fine, this last season was a waste of time. Each episode amounts to nothing and there is sooo much repetition that I was thrown back to Heroes season 2 during the NBC writers strikes.

I don't know if S2 of Loki was the way it is because it was trying to change Kang or because it was trying to be impressive. As of now, it seems like the latter.

All that said, S2 of Loki was "technically fine", the acting was decent-good, the visuals weren't terrible for 90-95% of it, good soundtrack. It was just the premise and how it was written that fell flat for my friend and I, and we're both just kind of bewildered by the positive reception to it. Like, is the bar that low for people? Were we expecting too much? Is Disney just astroturfing? maybe a little of all 3. But holy heck, compared to other shows like Gen V and Invincible coming out each week we are so hype and sad about those episodes ending and we watch Loki and go... "that was it? ok..."

I did like the ending, though. Pretty much the only part of the show that wasn't sci-fi technobabble and actually amounted to something and a smidge of character development. Even still, it was only okay I guess.

wolfshadowheart ,

Disney has acquired Marvel over a decade ago (14 years). They are closer to producing 2 decades of Marvel content (6 years from now) than they are from the date of the initial merger in 2009.

It's very similar for Star Wars which was 2012.

They also still make original kids shows.

wolfshadowheart ,

Does this include music?

Did they axe that already?

But honestly with streaming this makes sense.

wolfshadowheart ,

I wonder if this is why the Grimm's fairy tales and Aesop's fables have been so popular. Don't be the boy who cried wolf, lying too much means others won't believe you, the Tortise and the Hare about being careful to make time work for you.

It's only reasonable that children mirror and insert themselves, so it makes sense for these stories about children to give some lessons for the kids in a way that they gravitate towards learning from already.

wolfshadowheart ,

Huh, that's odd! I'm subscribed here on kbin and happened across this post on my main feed.

You are the only recent post, though! The others are all 4 months old like you said - so it may just not be a very active community

What VPN do you use and why?

If you are a pirate VPN is an essential tool. I am trying to ascertain the popularity of various VPNs in piracy community. In this excerise, I will list several Popular VPNs in the comment if you use one of them just upvote that comment and reply the reason. If you don’t find your VPN listed add a comment with just their name....

wolfshadowheart ,

Basically what @Metal_Zealot and you have to worry about are if you've downloaded enough to make a profitable case going after you in a civil suit.

As for using the VPN, any worthwhile VPN has split tunneling with inclusion and exclusion lists. I use Windscribe personally

wolfshadowheart ,

It has 2 votes and the second comment just hasn't been voted on. But I also use Windscribe - the only thing to know about it is that there's been a probe. I personally feel that they handled it well and were transparent about it. Every VPN is going to have this happen to them at some point so IMO it's about how the information is delivered to the users that determines how trustworthy I find them.

wolfshadowheart ,

Ah that would make sense lol

wolfshadowheart ,

Compared to Amazon, where they rip right from the server lol

wolfshadowheart ,

The only thing that's cool about it is the actor/trivia information - otherwise it really is pretty terrible lol

I've also once solved a flicker by resetting my CMOS and then doing DDU - chances are slim but it's worth a shot along with the cable

Faking Pixel 5a

I’ve read on reddit that Google still provides unlimited photos backup if you own Pixel 5a and lower. On rooted Android you can fake that and get free backup storage, but who wants to give pictures to Google?! I was thinking if it’s possible or done by someone to create an environment on Docker by faking device info to...

wolfshadowheart ,

I know it's not the point, but I do think it would be easier to set up a photo server than to hack around Google.

wolfshadowheart ,

100% @gargari

Even something simple like syncthing is very easy

wolfshadowheart ,

Related videos somewhat still show up when you're in a video. It's true that the homepage is just default YouTube though

wolfshadowheart ,

Bandcamp is nice because even if the album is $0 you can still add some money for the artist.

Similarly, many times albums will be pay what you can, so it can be nice spending $0 on an album.

wolfshadowheart ,

The one I haven't been able to find a good replacement for is Sampler.

wolfshadowheart ,

In browser audio sampler with fairly decent tools

wolfshadowheart ,

Does Epic allow you to set your homepage to your library yet? Or does it still unnecessarily keep you to their store or some other useless page?

wolfshadowheart ,

Didn't microsoft recently push something to prevent these from working?

wolfshadowheart ,

Hm, I could have sworn I had read an article around here (roughly the last two months maybe, likely more recently) saying that the MAS had been patched by Microsoft, but now I can't find anything about it at all. Odd.

Well, good that it's still functioning!

wolfshadowheart ,

It is but it also has servers. There's a fair amount of groups that upload shows and the like.

I've always assumed music is probably mediocre and the rest of the visual content to be low quality stuff though, it seems like it may be oriented towards people who want to watch things on their phone.

wolfshadowheart ,

Microsoft gives us Halo and Starfield. Activision gives us Call of Duty and World of Warcraft.

Sure, the former have their issues, but they also have the freedom to go at these large scale projects. The latter are rehashed cash cows that have no intention of changing, spearheaded by a community of breast-milk theiving offenders.

wolfshadowheart ,

Yes, you can use a Pi4 to accomplish the results of this guide, I used a Pi3B+ for a few years without any major issues. However, you will not be able to follow this guide to get it set up, as Pi's are a different architecture and so you need different images for the initial setup regarding Ubuntu. Mostly everything after that will be the same though.

Just keep some spare copies of your setup mirror imaged to another SD card once you're all done and you are golden. Configure your download settings in Sonarr/Radarr to avoid 4k content, that's the only real limitation of the Pi's, outside of the SD card lifespan (solved mostly by just not logging).

@spacecowboy - not being able to write an image will make the Pi4 as a server a biiit more difficult. Do you have an android phone? There's etchdroid or Pi SD Card imager, which materials to use for can cost under $10 (you'd want the SD card reader that can plug into your phones port, for example). It's fleeting otherwise, chances are high that you will get it set up and then the SD card will die and you'd be out of luck regardless.. If the Pi is your only computer for now, then I'd keep it that way. Either way, I do highly suggest some backup SD cards, they are cheap and you rarely need more than 32gb for the operating system and basic usage - anything with heavy logging or storage should be kept on an external hard drive.

While it's possible with an android device, even maybe a library computer with permission for USB devices and temporary downloads would be a good option. It's really nice to be able to get your server all setup and then make a duplicate of the SD card, which I don't believe is possible on android. It's imperative to have a backup since SD cards do have a lifespan, using it as a main server with no backups is putting all your eggs in one basket. All it takes is forgetting to disable logging and the clock starts ticking.

It's also nice to be able to test out different operating systems, as you might find that Buster has more overhead than something like DietPi, a command line based OS, as well as being slightly less straightforward for your needs if the Pi is going to be a headless server. But like I said, if you're using the Pi as a regular computer, DietPi won't be a viable option since it has no GUI.

wolfshadowheart ,

This could either be really good or horrifically awful. However unlike The Witcher show, I feel like it has better chances. Source material doesn't matter too much in that V's story can be pretty dynamic with how its told and The Witcher has a very linear story line and strongly solidified characters.

Adapting existing stories and changing them has to be done really well for people to appreciate it and The Witcher just didn't have this going for it. 2077 on the other hand has so many places it could go, characters that we've yet to meet. I mean really they have all the options as long as the dialogue and delivery is done well.

wolfshadowheart ,

x to doubt - most services I see listed here are at least a combined amount of $30+ which over a period of 5 years, it's far cheaper to buy the hardware once, set it up once, and be done with it. Bonus, in 5 years if you really did eat up 16tb of data you can just add one more 8tb hard drive for the cost of 4 months of streaming.

I personally get really frustrated with linux and self-hosting is a pain in the ass, I enjoy it, but it's a pain. Self-hosting something like plex is completely different. Set it up once right the first time and you forget about it forever.

wolfshadowheart ,

It's not something you can force yourself through, unfortunately. The only way to get over VR motion sickness is to work up to it.

If you get motion sick after 5 minutes, spend 4 minutes every day doing basic things. After a couple weeks, you'll very likely be able to go about 10-15 minutes. So then spend 10 minutes every day.

The moment you get any sort of motion sickness, stop immediately. Nothing you can do will alleviate it and playing more isn't an option that day.

I do think most people are able to work up to and work through it, but most just try to brute force their way or expect that they'll immediately be able to do everything. VR is analogous to a craft, both vehicle and hobby. While you can just get right into a car or roller coaster and send it, chances are your body needs to adjust and learn a few things about it. And while you can just pick up painting right away, chances are you'll need to practice to learn techniques.

VR is very much a mix of both. Many people definitely can just get right on and pick it up pretty quickly, but that doesn't mean there isn't some amount of necessary adjustments.

wolfshadowheart ,

I wonder if the original vision of DD is going to be attempted. It was a cool concept.

Excited regardless of what's to come!

wolfshadowheart ,

I had the same concern that I voiced in a different post, but apparently many EBT accepters waive the fees for their service.

That said, I'm sure there's still some creep somewhere, likely tips. If Uber does that in the first place, lol

wolfshadowheart ,

@Ajo1322 Mario Kart and the early flipnote

wolfshadowheart ,

Depending on the age, myabandonware and a guy named Vimm who has a lair are solid places.

Just one DL at a time from the latter, but it's worth it. Also it's not that bad of a hassle, go from small to large games and it's over in no time.

wolfshadowheart ,

Does this include Valve? I imagine that Valve is a huge part of Unity's sales...

wolfshadowheart ,

Wow, this looks like it would be the first all in one then? As far as I'm aware there's not yet an AI software that is able to do text and image based respomses? (Of course, the AI scene has moved so fast that I could have missed it entirely)

wolfshadowheart ,

Yup, seems like the move. Anything we can do to offload work from loading/sifting through models will greatly increase their efficiency. Currently MythicAI has worked on using analog chips to work with models and they've succeeded, however they're pretty specific to their use case (MythicAI is for AI recognition in realtime video; surveillance basically). But it should be fairly easily adapted to any type of model, it simply needs to be popularized.

Analog looks really useful since it's for highly specific mathematics, but if we could get a system module for RAM in addition to an analog processor, theoretically the need VRAM usage for AI could plummet. We're only using Tensor cores to brute force it, currently we could load a model, have it's information delivered, that's 400watts for the duration... mythicAI's analog chips use only 3.5 watts, delivering the results more quickly.

Anyway, the future is looking promising. Current implementations of AI are mediocre but the biggest hurdle they've had is the sheer amount of energy it takes. The benefits of it go up immensely if the energy cost goes down, and the quality of AI is only going to get better from here. Rather than shun the technology or abhor it, we probably should be looking at ways to embrace it without needing its own electric grid.

wolfshadowheart ,

Right but if it's something that's affecting every single creator then why would anyone continue to want to use Unity

wolfshadowheart ,

It's quoting Linus Tech Tips. And he's being mostly genuine about it.
