Hasbro being the worst, yet again

BG3's only sin is having to be tied to the worst owner in tabletop gaming. Thank god Larian is independent.

Suppose it just formalized the situation already effectively in place. Bungie giving a thumbs down + major staff loss on a live service is essentially game over.
Glad they didn't double down.

Heard about about the port literally today at 3 and immediately downloaded it, but I thought I'd have more time than literally disappearing the same day.

Was inevitable though.

Show's not quite over yet, as of writing this the itch.io page is still live.

I have been following @milwaukee and @wisconsin from kbin.social and I noticed that starting around a week ago or so, I can post to the communities but new posts and comments don't make it from midwest.social to kbin.social. Is there a federation issue? Was something recently broken?

@steinbring can you see this?

Congratulations, you've sufficiently annoyed me enough to log in to my local instances to type this out.

There is no ”one” way to speak and write English — we don't have an """official""" institute of our language like Spanish or French does (and even if we did, they would not have a monopoly on English). We don't speak in Received Pronunciation or keep the superfluous 'u' next to every 'o.'
Like every language, English has multiple dialects with their own vocabulary, and even some with their own specific grammar. The sentence in the OP was likely written in one of them - African-American Vernacular English. This dialect codifies double negatives, the habitual be, and words like 'finna.' Many of its aspects are already integrated into 'standard' American English.

This is part of the process of language in general. Many of the rules in 'proper form' come from shorthand, slang, and and crude versions of other languages and forms. Being aware of the rules shifting and changing as people shift and change how they speak will probably get you further than turning your nose up at rules you don't recognize.

Working on a guide to kbin. Would anyone else find something like this helpful?

@unofficial_kbin_guide i would consider it very helpful for encouraging user adoption

I personally would not, partially for the aforementioned concerns about .zip and also because Lemmy IIRC has no migration path from one instance domain to another. This is partially due to ActivityPub and partially due to it not being addressed in Lemmy core.
This is part of the reason why after FMHY.ml got disrupted, those communities could not come back online on that server.
For the time being, whenever you choose a fediverse domain, you are stuck with it, especially if you run Lemmy.

I'm not that confident in sites that choose .zip at this point in time.

USB-C confirmed for the iPhone 15 in new leaked images - Macworld ( www.macworld.com )

We’ve known that the iPhone is switching to USB-C for a while now, but there was always a possibility that Apple would stick with Lightning for one more year. Based on the latest leaked images, however, Apple is all-in on USB-C for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models, with USB-C parts for the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and...

Comcast, Centurylink Fail To Derail Community-Owned Gigabit Fiber Network In Bountiful, Utah ( www.techdirt.com )

The city of Bountiful, Utah voted to build a $48 million fiber network to provide affordable gigabit broadband for its residents and businesses. Regional internet providers Comcast and CenturyLink opposed the plan and tried to force a public vote through a taxpayer group they fund. However, communities often build their own...

ActivityPub is more of a social network protocol rather than a messaging protocol. It assumes most data sent through it will get public by default and has very little encryption set up for it, let along E2EE. Now Matrix is a better use case for an open protocol like that and also offers bridges between other chat networks (I wouldn't be surprised if Beeper has Matrix under the hood).

How are Lemmy instances able to even see microblog posts ? Afaik Lemmy doesn't have microblogging feature , interaction between Lemmy and more microblog oriented parts of the fediverse should be more limited right ? Unless it was something they recently added , or a 3rd party app that adds it ig ?

quortez ,
@quortez@kbin.social avatar

@Eigengrau as far as I know they don't; Mastodon-type users can see Lemmy threads and users and reply to them, but Lemmy users can't do the reverse with microblog posts.

quortez ,
@quortez@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, the dust is still settling (in the middle of a rebrand/namespace migration). I like it as it feels like Mastodon++ and it last links with Lemmy/Kbin.

Yeah the whole Samsung moon shots (possibly r/Android's biggest moment as a subreddit) really kinda laid out, paired with the anxiety around AI, that our phone cameras...are not really capturing what we see anymore, or what was even there anymore. There's levels to it of course, but it is unsettling that we're going to be in this space of not even trusting any image for a long, long time.

Reddit removes years of chat and message archives from users' accounts ( mashable.com )

Reddit recently removed years of chat and message archives from users’ accounts without warning as part of an infrastructure upgrade. Many Redditors were upset to discover that their chat histories from before January 2023 were no longer accessible. Reddit claims they only migrated data from 2023 forward during the transition...

quortez OP ,
@quortez@kbin.social avatar

What I want, and I think that's what the OP is talking about, is simply to have a way to slow down the posts from the more active communities - kinda like how Reddit didn't show you all of the content of a very active sub when you were on your main feed, but only the hottest threads, and you'd get a mix of threads from very big active subreddits and smaller more inactive subreddits. I love the LOTR meme communities, for example, but I don't want to see all of their posts on my main feed, since it drowns out discussions from other smaller communities.

Yes, this exactly.

I absolutely love the collaboration you and @FixedFun have made with this design, as well as the callback to the unfortunately deleted kbeanaut thread.. I'd also like to second @birlocke_ and @Gamers_Mate's alternate idea of the Bird in a bin (ala bin chicken).

If these ever become an icon pack I'd love variations of all the birds as well as kbinaut mode!

Unfortunate, but somewhat of a formality. AOSP Messages and Dialer were essentially deprecated as it was already, and we have many projects ready to take their place.

Hot take: 18 years of user contributions to reddit will serve as a base model for an AI that generates content and conversations. the reddit experience continues as a simulation, to harvest clicks, sales and ad revenue. ( kbin.social )

most of the time you'll be talking to a bot there without even realizing. they're gonna feed you products and ads interwoven into conversations, and the AI can be controlled so its output reflects corporate interests. advertisers are gonna be able to buy access and run campaigns. based on their input, the AI can generate...

8 years to not-remove a part of the spec AOSP supports natively.
8 freaking years to develop a solution for native video-out that isn't the confusing, low-quality, barely recognized DisplayLink.
8 goddamn years to admit to themselves that Chromecast mirroring is a dog shit alternative to DP-AltMode.

But 8 years hopefully come to an end.

Reddit activated a word filter that whenever you say "fuck spez", your comment won't show up for anyone else. I just tested it on ModCoord. they're also deleting spez memes from the subs they nuked lol ( kbin.social )
