why doesn't GNOME have a mascot??

KDE not only has 1 mascot, they have over 6 or more mascots!! Yet GNOME only has the foot, that’s interesting, they need a mascot. And made by Tyson Tan or someone with a similar art style, it would be amazing!!! But anyway GNOME is the best desktop environment and it’s better if it’s vanilla with some small...

I like Void because it makes me quirky.

Just kidding.

I like Void because it makes me quirky, doesn’t require me to learn how systemD works, AND it is lightweight! Plus it has literally never broken on me.

xbps is absolutely lovely. It may not have concurrent downloads, but it manages to be quick anyway!

I keep going back and forth whether I am excited for this or not. I wish we got more than an “eventually” on the multiplayer component. Factions MP really made the original game as awesome as it is.

I am waiting for the Bluey game to release. Super excited to add that platinum to my collection.

One of the pages on the site you’ve linked mentions Debian having Plasma Bigscreen in the package repo, so I imagine you can just download it on anything that runs the right instruction set. (armv7, amd64, etc. I am not sure what the package is built for.)

Are you, like, holding a grudge or something? This seems super unnecessary and doesn’t appear to help OP at all.

Distro for experienced Linux user

Hi, I’m looking for a distro for my laptop. My first distro was Pop!_OS, then I switched to Fedora, then Arch for a year and 2 months ago I switched to Fedora Silverblue, because I wanted to try immutable distro that relies on containers and flatpaks to be usefull. Silverblue is great but not so much for me, its not flexible...

Void is lovely, I use it on my computer as my sole OS, but OP requested systemd so that’s a no for Void.

Except for a few random voiceless NPCs that will stand, forever cheering, at the wayside.

Did they finally fix that?!?! Time to run a few xbps commands!! Why am I so pumped about this? Hopefully this includes the download preview panel, too!

Backing this up. My glasses are for really bad astigmatism. When I first got the glasses, they made my head hurt über bad and I felt nauseous. Now, my head hurts when I don’t wear them.

It’s a brown sugar shaken espresso. The shortened words aren’t hard to figure out. Espresso shots can be made regardless of the roast, which is in this case a light roast (blonde espresso). Sure, less traditional, but you can pull shots with any coffee you desire. In this drink, there are several shots shaken with a bit of brown sugar, cinnamon, and ice, served topped with a splash of oatmilk. (It looks like the milk has mixed in over time of being carried.)

A shakerato (shaken espresso) is a real type of coffee drink. Lmao.

Also, if this looks like a 32oz cup to you, you need to open your eyes. 32oz does not fit in the palm of one’s hand unless they have much larger than average hands.

Edit: the Gr apparently stands for grande. In Starbucks language: 16oz. Lmao.

I went from PS3 to late-stage PS4 (think TLOU2). You can’t convince me that wasn’t a pretty big jump between one generation.

I recommend Debian for a server, if you value stability and stuff just working. Plus, a lot a guides are written with Debian/*buntu in mind!

The default breeze-dark is good enough for me with papirus dark icons and breeze-neutralcursors.

Edit: oh also I change the accent color to #cc8899 and the window decorations to just the x to close. I use gestures to interact with windows.

Do you keep the default browser on your Linux distro, or do you change it?

Void doesn’t come with a default. I just use xbps to download Firefox on a fresh install.

owatnext ,
@owatnext@lemmy.world avatar

The thing I love about Void: the only default is xbps and runit. Everything else is at your discretion.

I am lucky my husband likes to learn about this sort of stuff. When we started dating he barely knew the difference between Mac and Windows. Now he uses Linux. Granted, I have to install it, but he keeps on top of maintenance.

> Local government does not maintain road

> Pay taxes to local government to maintain road while you maintain the road instead

I see your point, but I think there is a bigger issue.

Edit: nvm, apparently it is a private bridge?

My regular OnePlus 8 goes for over a day. Are you on OOS or a custom ROM? I use LineageOS with a basic ACC setup and get good battery life.

I just use konsole , which is the default terminal emulator for KDE. I don’t need anything fancy, just something basic to run commands, updates, a few scripts, etc.

My name’s Lazlow and you’re on Chatterbox! Thanks for calling in.

I’m a first time caller. I wanted to say something about these videogames, they are warping our kids minds. My sons dog, Bugle, got hit by a truck, and he says mommy, mommy, where’s the reset button?

Another vote for your answer. I just can’t be bothered to troubleshoot Wayland on Void if X11 just works already for my purposes.

How do y'all deal with sleep states on modern laptops?

Most very recent laptops no longer support S3 sleep which used to be the default for a long time. On my old laptop it allowed me to just close the lid in the evening and open it again in the morning, and it would only loose a negligible amount of charge during that time....

owatnext ,
@owatnext@lemmy.world avatar

T480s here as well, running Void Linux. I just close the lid and whatever it does barely uses any battery. Something like 2-4% every 24 hours.

owatnext ,
@owatnext@lemmy.world avatar

I just checked my settings, seems that when I close the lid, it is set to sleep. Running cat /sys/power/mem_sleep returns s2idle [deep], whatever that means. I just leave it at the default settings. Perhaps I am just lucky?

Laughing in agreement at your list… then I get to Void. Instant angry.

But I understand your perspective. I would rarely recommend Void to someone, coming from a daily Void user. It is a lot. Paradigms are different. But I love it. It works when you figure it out, and I’ve never had a broken system with Void. It is truly stable. (Obligatory “in my experience”.)

And A: and B: were your floppy drives!

Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?

I’ve noticed in the Linux community whenever someone asks for a recommendation on a laptop that runs Linux the answer is always “Get a Thinkpad” yet Lenovo doesn’t seem to be a big Linux contributor or ally. There’s also at least six Linux/FOSS-oriented computer manufacturers now:...

In all seriousness, keep up on car maintenance. It’s cheaper in the long run that way. And if your CEL ever flashes, get that checked out ASAP. That means there is a much bigger problem such as a misfire or a fueling issue. Both of those could melt or clog your catalytic converters. Those things are big money.
