what apps use Tauri? I only know about Dorion which doesn't really work well from my experience

edit: ok so Dorion works well in an Ubuntu VM but it doesn't have a build for any other distro :/
also i found this https://github.com/tauri-apps/awesome-tauri

My first was Ubuntu 14.04 on some old HP laptop my dad had lying around. I still miss Unity sometimes

I'm all in on Fedora nowadays though, unless you count SteamOS lol

I bought a router with OpenWRT support but the official firmware works well enough and I can't really be bothered to switch it out for OpenWRT right now lol

it's good to know that I can in the future though, that wasn't an option with my last router

Black Box has been out for a while, I think you're thinking of Ptyxis

I haven't touched the X11 session once since I got my laptop, all Wayland

yeah, kinda crazy to post on github without the source

Not to be that guy

Are y'all actually torrenting Linux ISOs. Cus I recommend. Its way faster and fun to have a collection of like 30 distros and try and new branch of the larger Linux tree. I just assume its a joke but I only started torrenting Linux ISO because of seeing it replied so much lol.

@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

doesn't that only work on local connections?

inb4 a new fork called 2zu shows up lmao

is there a way you could make it use the integrated GPU on your workstation?

How performant are the Intel Arc GPUs in linux?

I saw the other day about the new video of Hardware Unboxed where they benchmarked the Intel GPUs with newer drivers on Windows. I'm also interested in buying one but I'd like to know how good they are on Linux. Since the GPUs will be using Vulkan renderer on Linux, I was hoping they would be better overall, or rather have a...

I agree but what if you buy secondhand?

except the AI has even less features

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

I wouldn't mind duplicates but they should be consolidated under one listing with a dropdown to switch between them

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

pretty much just CloudStream tbh

but with cross-device syncing

I just wish RSS readers could properly parse the webpages instead of only having the first paragraph and getting cut off

I don't think there's any homebrew for Tizen OS

you can get an Onn TV box from Walmart for $20 (before tax) and install SmartTube on it

chromecast is proprietary so it's likely not gonna be included by default

(Constructively) What is your least favorite distro & why?

I’ve been distrohopping for a while now, and eventually I landed on Arch. Part of the reason I have stuck with it is I think I had a balanced introduction, since I was exposed to both praise and criticism. We often discuss our favorite distros, but I think it’s equally important to talk about the ones that didn’t quite hit...

I really think Google has no idea what it wants ChromeOS to be anymore, they're just kinda shoving in shoddy solutions to its problems so they can say "hey we can do that too!"

soon they're gonna introduce Steam and I look forward to that being a big shitshow lol

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

he mentions DaVinci Resolve as the big reason he can't rate/use Asahi

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

you can just set the notif and ringer to the same thing
the other 2 do suck tho

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

that's really weird, it's in the little sound panel for me

I'm using a Pixel, maybe your manufacturer implemented it wrong for some reason

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

oh, didn't know Lineage got to 14 yet
from what I remember Lineage has its own custom sound panel that's different from the little bottom popup on Pixel
you could submit a bug report for it here

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

charging for AI features is not competition when Pixel gives it for free and (afaik) fully on-device lmao

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

you'd be surprised at how much of a difference that really makes

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

it's just Google Voice Search with a fancy UI at this point

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

I thought Lemmy already had a solution for this that overlaps communities with the same name

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

not sure if it really counts but I like Universal Blue, specifically using their silverblue-framework image because it already has all the drivers and stuff set up for my Framework laptop

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

I was kinda hoping the Pixel 8 would pressure more companies into supporting their stuff for much longer

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

honestly I heavily agree, Firefox on android is just a worse and choppier experience and I'd love for it to get a major overhaul to bring it back up to modern standards

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

tbh i think it would be better if there was a single collaborative engine instead, owned by a non-profit company like The Linux Foundation

maybe the W3C could establish their own but idk if they even do anything these days

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

extinguishing Chromium is the goal, isn't it?

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

cool feature, but how's Passkeys support on the desktop going?

Firefox PiP doesn't stay on top in GNOME

I am using fedora silverblue and in the native version of Firefox, the picture in picture window does not have always on top enabled. Is there anyway to change a setting such that always on top is enabled by default. I know it is supported on gnome+fedora because the flatpak version(I downloaded to test this behaviour) has this...

I've been doing a manual check every day since the update was announced and I'm still on the November patch

I even got one of those repeat patches where it says there's an update and to reboot but I still ended up on the November patch anyway

for tv stuff “smart” is the only thing that exists now

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

MaterialFox hasn’t been updated in a very long time, unless you’re talking about a fork and just copied the wrong link?

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

ah ok, very cool!

@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

google drive gives out 20? I only have 15

kib48 ,

finally

still think using a music app for podcasts is very dumb tho

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

peertube is never gonna be a replacement for youtube, it’s good as a “upload random stuff you made” platform but modern youtube is so detached from that

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

true

kib48 ,
@kib48@lemm.ee avatar

this is pretty much the point of Instant Apps

idk why nothing uses them
