So nimby will appose everything. Want to build a solar farm nimby, what to make a wind farm, nimby. I have people turn against a wind farm once they learned it would make electricity for their city but for the whole power grid. Simple because they learned other people would be able to use that electricity. How dare something they can see help the other. Making the build time and cost better helps build around them.

Most likely reason, contracts.

Example Nike sales shoes directly at the same price as footlocker. Why dont they under cut footlocker? They have a contracts that says they won’t under cut footlocker

There could br an issue like that but well you can make new contracts

joel_feila ,
@joel_feila@lemmy.world avatar

it depends on what the contracts say

    Im thinking of hopping over Debian soon. I heard i should use steam as a flat pack for best support. Is that true or not?

    Who does flatpak/snap benefit?

    As a user, the best way to handle applications is a central repository where interoperability is guaranteed. Something like what Debian does with the base repos. I just run an install and it’s all taken care of for me. What’s more, I don’t deal with unnecessary bloat from dozens of different versions of the same library...

    joel_feila ,
    @joel_feila@lemmy.world avatar

    OH I asked a question like that not to long ago. Appimages do tend to be smaller, they have sandboxing, and getting updates can be hard. Sometime you have just download the new appimage and delete the old one. Other then that is does serve the same function of universal install format.

    joel_feila ,
    @joel_feila@lemmy.world avatar

    thanks you for explaining that. I had asked around a few times about Linglong but there is nothing that really talked about them.

    Questions about Zorin

    Recently I am considering more and more moving my primary pc to a Linux distro. Somewhat for privacy issues but also to have more control over my system and to reduce the amound of advertising that windows keeps cramming in my face. Specifically I’m looking at Zorin. I was wondering what thoughs people here had on it....

    joel_feila ,
    @joel_feila@lemmy.world avatar

    nothing wrong with Zorin. If you game on steam and want a very windows like experience it will work. It was my running up when I went into Linux. The only reason I chose mint was mint had a bigger subreddit and I knew I would go there or tech support.

    @joel_feila@lemmy.world avatar

    Juat to give a good refeeence for tech illiterate people are. Neeva was a searxh engine that shur down a few month ago. They used a subscription model. They had little probelm getting people to pay they had a problem explaining what a search engine was. Their biggest hurdle was, i am not lying about this, getting people to change their settings. Yeah the thing that takes a few click.

    Most people care about privacy and what os they use to that same extent as brand of motor oil they use.
