AI can be neat, but this is a solution looking for a problem, like most AI things.

Windows 11 vs Ubuntu vs Fedora 39 vs Arch Linux - Speed Test! ( youtu.be )

Even though different Linux distros are often fairly close in terms of real-life performance and all of them have a clear advantage over Windows in many use cases, we can't reject the fact that Arch Linux has undoubtedly won the competition. And now I'm so glad to have another reason to proudly say "I use Arch btw"...

Hibernation I've found handy on my laptop, but I wish there was like a fastboot option with Ubuntu. I know windows 11 does it to boot faster.

Hey, glad you're happy with us ❤️

Same, nice to see it get some love.
I've tried a whole bunch of them, Wez is also a super nice guy and very active on GitHub.

@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I think that depends on the power supply?

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

If I had a nickel for everytime I saw a old copy of VMware running in prod, I'd have like $20 😅🤣

@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I use Obsidian alot, they are very different in how they work as far as I can tell. Obsidian is more like a pure notebook with a HUGE amount of useful plugins. I use the KanBan and OCR functions alot with their Google-esq search.

There are some folks that know both how to run a business well and are passionate about the technology, but they are rare unfortunately. More common in smaller organizations at least.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I say it all the time, people care about apps and browsing websites, they don't care about the how, just the what. Too many techy folks cannot see it as a business and human problem.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

What OS are you on? I hear it's a pain to add to Ubuntu.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

It's not even that hard to run OpenWRT or buy boxes with it on it already.

Inoreader and gReader for Android, amazing!
I switched when Good Reader died, haven't looked back, works amazing even in the free plan.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I saw that, made me do Inoreader. Was gonna self host, but figured wasn't worth it, due to moving around a lot.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Just waiting for thing to stabilize on 0.19.X for a week or two. If 0.19.3 proves stable, then we will move 🤞

2170 crowd represent!!!

Those things run forever and cost nothing to run.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Plus the work great with after market stuff.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I mean some of us even run OSX 😅

TBH, once stop running Windows, everything gets easier. And if your running Ubuntu or Mint, it's not even that painful to start and hardware more or less just works.

Debian is nice for servers, but it's a little out of date for desktop. YMMV, welcome to the club and ignore the snobs ❤️

I like Guake for drop down, WezTerm for everything else. I do miss iTerm2 on Linux tho, but it's close enough.

I spent $10k on food last year. What’s good way to track grocery spending?

So I’m just one dude and 10k a year just on food seems incredibly high. I don’t go out that often, ~$1600 was at restaurants. I’m not really sure what I’m doing wrong while shopping at grocery stores and want to track grocery purchases better. The store I typically go to doesn’t have online receipts to use....

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I just got Monarch and it works amazing for tracking everything. Used to use Mint, but they decided to merge to CreditKarma and screw themselves.

@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Breaking Bad was amazing.
Arrested Development was funny as heck, great cast.
Parks and Rec season 1 was meh, got wayyy better after the first season.
Also you should try and watch Kill Bill 1+2, they were really good and over the top as heck. Also Django Unchained and Inglorious Bastards were really great too.

NYC subway rats will fuck you up, I joke. City subways are actually decent, maybe not the best, but they get by.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Man, I miss MusicBee, it was a beast. I wish it was on Linux.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Just make sure you back up your stuff to a second disk❤️

@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, it's no secret that the SteamDeck is a huge reason why. Praise Gaben, may we game on every platform equally.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

OMG you too?
I had two minis die the same week. WTF.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Holy crap, this ... This ... Is very accurate...

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Try Ubuntu Mate, it's actually ok. I'm alot not the biggest fan of snaps. I try and get .debs or apt get, where I can. App Images seem a little odd to me, but Flatpack seems alright.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Wow I forgot about #! . That was a neat distro.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, did you find mint easy to use? I'm in Ubuntu and thinking about switching. I just worry about driver support, cause everything works on Ubuntu for me. I try and apt get everything I can TBH.

jelloeater85 ,
@jelloeater85@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, yeah, there are no where near 2 million HUMAN users. More like about 400k, at least according to FediDB.

TBH it's more about the 40k active users, which is still great.YMMV.

What Would You Like To See Improved in GNU/Linux?

Hey guys, I'm just an ordinary dev looking for something to work on. While messing around with my hobby projects, I couldn't help but notice that under the surface, there are a lot of places that the libre desktop can be improved. I'd like to take on your suggestions on what I should seriously consider working on and helping out...

There is a magic url by Mozilla I use a lot to get on public wifi on Ubuntu. I can find it if ya want?

I've been using this:
http://detectportal.firefox.com/canonical.html
It's a feature build into Firefox.
It can be a little chatty for some folks doing web debugging, never noticed it myself.

I love VMware, but man are they being short sighted with this one.

Roku version 2.0.0 Released ( jellyfin.org )

When we say this 2.0.0 release is a major milestone, we honestly mean it. New features and bug fixes abound, but even behind the scenes the updates continue all the way to the foundation with us updating every single file in the app to support a new programming language. You can't get more monumental than that!...
