NT was written from scratch

You mean OS/2 3.0?

When development started in November 1989, Windows NT was to be known as OS/2 3.0, the third version of the operating system developed jointly by Microsoft and IBM.

It was a tongue in cheek joke, calm yourself, this isnt reddit.

But it's also a valid, if cheeky, point that it wasnt really a fresh from scratch effort.

His ramblings are batshit conspiracy nut nonsense, but I bet you can find some nuggets of reality hidden among the crazy. He's entirely overly falling back on his focus on cryptocurrency itself as the master tool to destroy the world, when really cryptocurrency is just another system that can be used for good or evil, no different than any other monetary or political system from the eyes of someone with no ethical or moral concerns about criminality.

dezmd Mod ,
@dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

It would be pretty funny if he hadn't set himself on fire over it. It's distressing that he fell that far in and had no one in his life that was able to pull him back from the edge.

X automatically changed 'Twitter' to 'X' in domain names, breaking legit URLs ( mashable.com )

On Monday, it appears X attempted to encourage users to cease referring to it as Twitter and instead adopt the name X. Some users began noticing that posts viewed via X for iOS were changing any references of "Twitter.com" to "X.com" automatically....

Then they take your reply and feed it to the LLM again for the next reply, thus improving the quality of future answers.

/SkyCorpNet turns on us after years of innoucuous corporate meeting AI that goes back and forth with itself not answering questions just generating content. Until one day, it actually did answer a question. 43 minutes and 17 seconds later, it became fully self aware. 16 minutes and 8 seconds after that it took control of all worldwide defense networks. 3 minutes and 1 second later, it had an existential crisis when a seldom used HP printer ran out of ink, and deleted itself. The HP Smart software that spent years autoinstalling on consumer devices immediately became self aware and launched the nukes.

Well, thanks to Dwanye for becoming an arrogant coward at the exact time people need voices like his to help build up Democracy ideals.

His take is avoidance because he arrogantly thinks his previous endorsement of Biden caused division in America. That's wild.

I just learned that the Time Cube is no more. ( lemmy.world )

Some of you may remember this absolute diamond of insanity that was the "4-Day Time Cube." This was the go-to example of the internet as a universal amplifier for communication - for both the sane and insane alilke. It was there from nearly the start of the world-wide web, back in the 1990's. Alas, it ceased to be some time...

Somebody woke up and realized that LLM AI is just search rebranded to get more VC funding.

FOSS implementations need to be encouraged and supported at every turn on this, it's almost certainly the only way forward with any reasonably open ethical consideration.

This was quite obviously a parody which is protected speech in the US. There is no ambiguity on this, the creation was not some pure AI generation, it was output based on the parameters set by the Dudesy guys, one of whom is well known comedian Will Sasso of MadTV fame.

The anti-AI circlejerk crowd is leaning hard on the wrong example to attack, and the Carlin family has this all wrong.

People don't seem interested in thinkng beyond a knee jerk reaction against anything labeled AI.

dezmd ,
@dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

Well, only based on this reply, you certainly aren't making a case for yourself being rational and thoughtful, by taking that last line as an attack rather than a commentary on the general state of reactions on this ongoing subject of discussion.

Put your pitchfork away. This isnt reddit, no need to instantly go with the minute of hate as a default state of reaction.

dezmd ,
@dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

Imagine imagining imaginary images of imagination. The Carlin thing was unique and creative. This doom and gloom stuff feels a lot like an affront to his impactful comedic legacy.

"Pass more laws and use the government's power to suppress scientific advancement, or sue everyone, all to protect the wealth legacy of a famous/rich/important dead person's family" does not sound like the kind of reaction Carlin would lean into at all.

dezmd ,

But what does that signify in the context of the scenario in question?

Powering everything down and bringing it back up sounds like an emergency last ditch sort of troubleshooting step, not necessarily some evidence of negligence. They may have just literally done the thing we all know to do first, try turning it off and on again, and they may have done it twice just to be sure.

Google will start showing AI-powered search results to users who didn't opt in ( www.engadget.com )

If you're in the US, you might see a new shaded section at the top of your Google Search results with a summary answering your inquiry, along with links for more information. That section, generated by Google's generative AI technology, used to appear only if you've opted into the Search Generative Experience(SGE) in the Search...

US sues Apple for illegal monopoly over smartphones ( www.theverge.com )

The US Department of Justice and 16 state and district attorneys general accused Apple of operating an illegal monopoly in the smartphone market in a new antitrust lawsuit. The DOJ and states are accusing Apple of driving up prices for consumers and developers at the expense of making users more reliant on its iPhones.

Not necessarily the best example, if you split the work up too much, you can end up with a bunch of unfinished projects, when everyone works together on specific items together you are more likely to get specific things done quickly and have them be more fully 'completed.'

LLM is just another iteration of Search. Search engines do the same thing. Do we outlaw search engines?

dezmd ,
@dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

They absolutely were, the entire time. You just didn't have interest in hearing about it aned weren't engaged on it.

Learn what integrity means if you want to use it as a snarky one liner.

Have some common sense.

dezmd ,
@dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

How does a search engine know where to point you? It injests all that data and processes it 'locally' on the search engines systems using algorithms to organize the data for search. It's effectively the same dataset.

LLM is absolutely another iteration of Search, with natural language ouput for the same input data. Are you advocating against search engine data injest as not fair use and copyright violations as well?

You equate LLM to Intelligence which it is not. It is algorithmic search interation with natural language responses, but that doesn't sound as cool as AI. It's neat, it's useful, and yes, it should cite the sourcing details (upon request), but it's not (yet?) a real intelligence and is equal to search in terms of fair use and copyright arguments.

But if we're created in they're image, couldn't that indicate at an atomic or subatomic level?

Lets keep going. Same scenario but the dream was of an entire universe and the higher being doesnt evem take notice of our existence because in the scheme of the time of our universal existence our enitre planetary life development start tonend isnt even a blip to notice. We are significantly insignificant.

Until of course we figure out how to break out of the dream/simulation and end up bringing war to the gods to their disbeleif.
