Or blaming customers for problems, "You're shifting it wrong."

And what the EV market needs is a Model T, reliable and affordable. Not all these luxury models that go 0-60 in 3 seconds.

Well just have to close the state borders and turn away planes from FL.

Noble cause but they already spent 8 billion 2 years ago and there is plenty of hunger. I'm not sure how another 1.7 billion will fix it.

There is plenty of food but the distribution is a big part of the problem, hopefully they are addressing that.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

People are not gonna like that. They will pull into the drivethrough line to buy the same thing they paid $3 for the day before, and leave or buy something cheaper when they see it's $4 right now.

Even now when you try to study the menu screens at McDonalds they change while you're trying to read them.

Supreme Court casts doubt on GOP-led states' efforts to regulate social media platforms (apnews.com)

The Supreme Court cast doubt Monday on state laws that could affect how Facebook, TikTok, X, YouTube and other social media platforms regulate content posted by their users. The cases are among several this term in which the justices could set standards for free speech in the digital age....

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

This should not be a hard decision. How can they consider forcing anyone or any organization to publish content they don't wish to publish?

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Yeah that is some ridiculous irony.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Isn't that basically what the current LLM AI fundamentally does? Just digests a bunch of text and gives a summary back in response to queries?

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

I'm a couple hours into the free weekend and the NPCs just won't shut up. Give me a summary I don't need a 5 minute discussion every time I return to base or during a mission, it makes the mission very tedious. Is this a talking simulator or an open world zombie game?

Best case scenario the machine has some sort of standard software with facial recognition code, but no hardware in the machine. Would he interesting to know.

Oh geez. These corporations are trying to be evil every way they can.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

There is such a power disparity between large corporations and normal people or small businesses. A corporation can make a small decision that would devestate a person or small business and it doesn't affect them at all.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

It shouldn't be necessary but the lesson here is always get at least half upfront and if the multi-billion dollar corporation protests ask them why they want free stuff. Custom orders should always need at least half payment up front.

dan1101 ,

It's bad when an operating system keeps giving you a screen full of options and the best answer for every single one is No.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Yeah that drive was $200+ if I recall correctly. I had to live with the tape drive for a year or so, was not fun. Then my mom bought me a Blue Chip drive because it wasn't so expensive. It did not work well and she still wound up buying the 1541 drive. Thanks mom.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

It always irks me when someone is tailgating me with one hand at 12 o'clock and one holding their phone. Sorry for driving 5 over the speed limit in front of your truck. And why are you having a phone conversation while holding your phone when I know damn well your truck has Bluetooth?

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

It looks surprisingly not bad but still the sort of movie like Fast and Furious where you just have to turn your brain off.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

They really are. I just shoot and loot while talking heads blabber away in the upper corner of the screen.

Apple would just pass the tax on with higher developer fees.

If they did built-in backward compatibility I would be more likely to buy. My last PS console was a fat PS3 that would still play my PS2 games.

Question about using default router and modem

Is using the router and modem my cable company provided for my internet putting my privacy at risk? And if so, I have heard of openWRT routers but it seems like there's quite a bit of a learning curve with that but even if I got one would I need a non cable company branded modem as well? Any specifically that anyone here would...

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Comcast Business has this wonderful policy where you can't have a static IP unless you use their modem.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

My only choice unfortunately. The tech staff is nice but the sales staff and contracts are crappy.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

This could be super fun if they get a little gritty with it.

Waymo issued a recall after two robotaxis crashed into the same pickup truck (www.engadget.com)

Last year, two Waymo robotaxis in Phoenix "made contact" with the same pickup truck that was in the midst of being towed, which prompted the Alphabet subsidiary to issue a recall on its vehicles' software. A "recall" in this case meant rolling out a software update after investigating the issue and determining its root cause....

Billionaires get to alpha test their software on public roads and everyone is at risk.

So if you got Win11 to install on an "unsupported" CPU it might not boot now?

Backward compatibility is a big selling point for me. It bugged me for years when Windows got rid of 16-bit compatibility.

Looking forward to Linux instead of Windows 11/12, I know it will be a learning curve but Linux is getting better and easier.

Many years ago I had a lot of fun with this game coop. IIRC it wasn't a lot different than Dead Island.

I just run Files and the Downloads folder is listed there under Categories.

As far as I know Files was preinstalled on my Moto G phone.

I'm tired of playing the debloat game, especially with the frequency of Windows updates that undo and add things.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Same. This seems to be getting more common with various media and products. Too many choices which is a good thing for consumers but not good for publishers.

Read about Three Kings, great concept even if it's all BS. There is a subreddit about it.

Too many mediocre or outright terrible games being released. On average graphics have gotten much better but gameplay has gotten worse with busy HUDs and lootboxes and live service.

Toyota cars collecting and potentially sharing location data and personal information, Choice says, and it's not the only car brand facing privacy concerns (www.abc.net.au)

Rafi Alam from CHOICE told The World Today: "When we looked at Toyota's privacy policy, we found that these Connected Services features will collect data such as fuel levels, odometer readings, vehicle location and driving data, as well as personal information like phone numbers and email addresses."...

I love cars but it's a discouraging time. There are fewer cars and more trucks and SUVs, the trucks and SUVs are too big, vehicles have too much tech that's too intrusive, and most of all they are super expensive.

Somebody did something about all the extended warranty calls, but yeah I'm still skeptical.

During election time there are a lot of motivated irrational people out there who are determined to have their candidate win by any means necessary since the other side is so corrupt and are already probably playing the same tricks they want to play.

Pacific Drive had one of the most atmospheric intros I've seen since Half Life. It loses a little once you start scavenging and crafting and get your HUD, but still a unique game. Like a cross between My Summer Car and STALKER.

That wasn't clear to me either, I will try it again.
