It was crypto scam wasn’t it?

Edit: it was crypto scam…

That fucking sucks. Tor and crypto go hand in hand, for reasons.

The only thing I ever bought we’re psychedelics, but it’s pretty easy/ safe to do that over the regular web without crypto/ Tor these days. Spore traders are waaaaaaay more reliable.

It's never been a better time to switch to Firefox (www.androidpolice.com)

• Firefox offers better privacy and security than Chrome, with upcoming support for 200 new add-ons. • While Chrome dominates, Firefox gains ground with user-friendly browsing experience and open-source model. • Mozilla’s focus on user privacy and transparency challenges Google’s ad-centric approach, making Firefox a...

If you work from home and you have go through a bunch of web resources, it’s really nice. Most of the time you’re opening new tabs, instead of being in the same tab. That way you still have the old web page for reference.

Specifically any job over the phone, it’s almost mandatory. I love closing all the tabs at the end of the call, though.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

Fair. For me, I’m actively working with the customer, and they can forget something at any moment, and you have to go back, so you have to keep them all open as reference, until the end of the call. You do “prune” them as you go along though. I swear, though: the second you close out that tab they’ll have a question for that exact tab you just closed out. You also can’t memorize things because they always change, you just have to get good at navigating the resources. Maybe that’s a bit niche.

TIL that there's a FOSS Tomb Raider engine that can run on a web browser (lemmy.world)

The name is OpenLara (github.com/XProger/OpenLara ) and you can try out the WebGL build directly on your web browser on: xproger.info/projects/OpenLara/ . The web version works amazingly well on my Pixel 7a with touch controls (you have to click on the “go fullscreen” button) using Firefox as a browser.

I agree. Every company I’ve worked for recently has been migrating to web based applications, which has DEFINITELY been fun.

If anyone didn’t know, APC applies to internet, and it will save $30 a month. I think it’s the last year though, unless they extend it or make a new one.

Let the labyrinth of wrinkles be furrowed in my brow with the red-hot iron of my own life, let my hair whiten and my step become vacillating, on condition that I can save the intelligence of my soul - let my unformed childhood soul, as it ages, assume the rational and esthetic forms of an architecture, let me learn just everything that others cannot teach me, what only life would be capable of marking deeply in my skin!

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain (youtu.be)

“Legend has it that George Clinton, under the influence of LSD (as per, George!), told Hazel during the recording session for Maggot Brain to play “like your momma had just died” – and his extraordinary 10-minute guitar solo, recorded in one take, was the result. It became the title track of the band’s 1971 album-”...

I was super excited this video came out, and immediately posted it to the video community.

I’m still excited, but I guess everyone forgot about him and hates video essayists now. The metrics are horrible. I feel bad, he worked 2 years.

Edit: that “I” was on accident! I’m not him.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

It’s both. It ties in with the history of the internet and economics. Another video he made was about chess, but it was also about early AI.

I’m guessing you don’t like long form?

I personally like it. I love Dan Carlin aswell and he’ll go even longer.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

I agree, but based on the negative feedback, I think that’s how it’s going 😢

It’s better 100% of the time, when it’s doesn’t work on Linux.

Also, I’m sexy 100% of time, when I am sexy (which is 0% percent of the time).

A suit with a pattern that looks like Newspapers but they’re all the onion articles.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

It was a joke. They’re a satire of misinformation. That’s the point. I would NOT suggest wearing REAL news articles in your costume.

You learn the basics and then you watch entertainment in the language you’re trying to learn. Don’t gatekeep.

I know this is not how dbzer0 works, but can you help me get cs 1.6 working on my linux system ? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I downloaded the game from soft32 (this file used to work on the old days). I installed both WINE and Lutris, but the game runs like sh**t. I get .NET and Vulkan errors from Lutris&WINE. Can you give me a newbie friendly guide for the right way? I’m tired of scrapping the web and it doesn’t help that I have limited data....

Seems legit, but don’t provide direct links (as tempting as it is).

Xanthrax , (edited )
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

A magnet is hyperlink, and if you link it, it’s a direct link.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

I agree. That’s the point, though. It’s just helps keep them out of trouble. It’s better to go through DM’s. It’s not a rule though, I agree.

I almost got arrested there because I dropped my receipt in the Urinal, and they wouldn’t believe me. That was fun. I try not to shop there, but that really cemented it.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

I know everyone says it, but FUCK they should let Obsidian do the writing, and they need to drop that ancient game engine. Microsoft has probably killed this company.

Fallout: New Vegas had some of their best story telling. The Outer Worlds had awesome lore too. I’m really surprised they didn’t bring them along.

Does pirating movies that are only in cinemas have a different result to when they are released on disk/streaming services

Sorry for the swabbie question, but I tried to find a film (Saw X in particular) on quite a few different sites and all torrents/streams/downloads had baked in ads for online casinos and the like. Is this just a feature of piracy, or does something change when the film leaves the cinema? I’m not asking for links, so don’t...

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

If it doesn’t get leaked or streamed, it’s usually just a cam (filmed with a camera). Honestly, I’ve never seen a good cam video, and they all have weird ads like you say. It’s better to wait IMO.

The Barbie Movie was on there quick! I’m still waiting for Oppenheimer.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

Lol, I never thought of it that way. I will admit, though, that package theft was already a thing. It’s really bad if you live in an apartment.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

It’s more dropping or getting scratched, but I’ll admit I’ve never seen opal break.

If you use paper filters, they’re also biodegradable on their own.

Suck in the cached bowl and pour the bong out when you’re done smoking. You don’t have to use the lighter the entire time when you’re smoking the bowl. Leave it cherried, and when it goes out, suck it into the bong. You will have to clean your bong more often.

I’m assuming you didn’t have a Playstation.

If you remember 9/11 that’s actually one of the things that makes you a millennial instead of gen z. Most people born on/past 1997 don’t remember 9/11, myself included.

My partner is only 2 years older than me, but she’s a millennial and I’m gen z. It’s weird how much those two years do. She can remember 9/11 and there’s a lot of other little things you can read about.

That’s another crazy thing, in just 4 years, gen z will be in there 30’s!

I knew gentleman that was 100 (he literally turned 100 the year I met him). He was one of the most sharp people at the retirement home; I think a lot of it was the fact he loved the internet and gaming.

Edit: If any of you are history nerds with a good concept of time, you may have thought of something:

HE SAW CIVIL WAR VETERANS; HE WAS THAT OLD. I say “saw” because he only ever saw them in parades, never spoke to them. I asked him if they let the confederates on the floats and he just laughed and said “no” (I wish people had that common sense nowadays) . He also thought I was asking if he FOUGHT in the civil war, so that got a good laugh out of him aswell. Cool dude all around. He used to give me a lot of shit, but now he’s just another grandpa to me.

Standing desk, more ergonomics, and ibuprofen.

Also, here’s a good stretch:

With your arms straight, grab your hands together behind your back. With your fingers laced, lift them directly up, while looking up. That’s it. It really helps with standing straight.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, that’s how it goes sometimes. I can’t cycle anymore for similar reasons. One cool thing is, you can still do it, just not habitually. Best of luck with your pain.

You do need a commune for communism, but a commune doesn’t have to be communist. If you study Karl Marx, he’s very clear about that. He famously wrote about the Paris Commune aswell.

Communism is a political/ socioeconomic ideology, not a type of state.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

Love it! I just wish it allowed for more effects to be applied to individual layers/ images, when you’re “adding images”.

Whenever I try to composite-in an image, I always have to save and export. Then I have to work on the image I’m trying to composite-in and save/ export, again. Then I go back to the original project, go back to “add image”, and add the SINGLE IMAGE WHICH MAY STILL NOT BE RIGHT.

I still love it though.

Xanthrax ,
@Xanthrax@lemmy.world avatar

I completely agree! It’s been fun seeing it get better.

It’s a little labor intensive, but I love the ability to basically recreate a clone tool if you’re patient enough.

I don’t know if the actress is underage, but she’s supposed to be “jail bait” in the movie.
