Look up mondragon Spain. Its a town in Spain whose economy was struggling after WWII. They turned it around by adopting a cooperative business model. This means all employees are owners.

All employees get to vote how the company operates. Executives work for share holders right? With cooperatives, the share holders are employees creating a business Ouroboros where the boss and their boss have an interest in keeping employees Happy. Employees are invested in keeping the company profitable.

They have padded rules like CEO pay is tied to the lowest salary in the company. It can never be more than X amount of the lowest salary. If they want it to raise they have to increase all salaries in the company first.

They don't get filthy stinking rich. But what they have shown is that the people living there score happier than most. They also show that they are economically more resilient. For close to a 100 years they have withstood recessions and economic down turns.

A better solution is to counter market these products. Invest time in spreading content that tells other people how shit these products are. Not buying it doesn't do much. But spreading the good word does. Its why they pay so much to advertise and market

Study finds that Chat GPT will cheat when given the opportunity and lie to cover it up later. (lemmy.world)

We demonstrate a situation in which Large Language Models, trained to be helpful, harmless, and honest, can display misaligned behavior and strategically deceive their users about this behavior without being instructed to do so. The top five categories of Bad Bot attacks are fake account creation, account takeovers, scraping, account management, and in-product abuse.

Is it just me or is this article trashy. It lists scraping as bad and suggests it’s immoral. It also lists account management as bad.

I got a feeling powers that be will attempt to make scrapping illegal under the guise of AI fears. I don’t imagine that many companies like scrapers that collate prices of their products into a website that let’s people compare prices against other stores. I don’t imagine the real bad actors like scrapers that archive internet content into things like the way back machine. It makes it harder to delete that late night drunken rant, the poor PR choice or the political flip flopping or makes it easier to capture real bad activities in the act before they delete their activity after lighting fires everywhere

I’m so behind companies doing this because too many people accept ads in every other part of their life and then act surprised when they get more ads showing up. It would be nice if this stuff woke people up.

You can’t pick and choose. You have to reject all ads. They’re a cancer we let it metastasize

Touching_Grass ,

It gets crazier to me when I start counting how many minutes of my day is spent being advertised too. I get ads on the radio to work. I get ads in the song themselves because DJ deEzNutz took a deal with McDonald’s to include a hook where he talks about those two sweet beef patties. Meanwhile I’m staring at every billboard one the way to work. I see all the signs on the bus stops. I see the ads on the bus themselves. Hell I get 8 hours between work and bed. How many of those are spend watching a commercial. This is such a wacky situation and I feel like Rowdy Piper in ‘They live’.

I’m worried Lemmy has the same marketing teams in it that destroyed reddit.

I just saw a post yesterday trying to hype these sales that instead had honest opinions. Then the post gets deleted. I assume because we all weren’t swooning

Not sure if people are not bothered by that type of manipulation of these platforms or not but it bothers me so much to see legit opinions and views get crushed by PR teams.

Touching_Grass ,

Hey so I’m not the only one. I was saying in another comment that I saw hype posts for sales were people didn’t get hype. The posts got deleted. I think Lemmy is starting to get marketing teams controlling content like reddit.
