Nobody likes a sucker, especially the kind that fall for fruit tarts like you. I knew there was trouble. I could smell it on the hot evening breeze. Fortunately for me, trouble is my favorite thing… Because I’m Joe Milkshake. I kicked down the door with one swift, decisive motion.

Wenigstens hat er es zugeben und ne Entschuldigung abgelassen. Hätte er auch komplett bis zum bitteren Ende rausziehen können.

War aber immer noch viel zu spät, hätte viel früher passieren sollen.

What exactly are you doing with streaming videos that is not “hobbyism”? That is such a weird argument to make.

I mean I have seen some people talking about using Jellyfin in a hotel situation for streaming stuff to rooms or whatever, and its definitely not going to be a smooth experience necessarily. But other than that every other usecase is “hobbyism” and thats not a negative thing.

The only question I would say that decides what you get is, do you want files to be transcoded for clients or not.

If not, you can definitely use anything since you just stream directly. I use a Raspberry Pi 4, works perfectly with 3 users direct stream at home.

If you want to be able to supply transcoding you need to lookout for supported hardware, but I am the wrong person to talk about that, given I only use the Rpi4.

DVDRip file handling? (imgur.com)

I’ve got a 3TB external drive that has files dating back to ~2001, and it’s chock-full of DVDrips from my library. It was initially formatted for an AppleTV/iTunes movie/show library, but now that I no longer use Apple products, I’m trying to migrate to Jellyfin. an example would be like the file I included, as it has the...

@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Not the person who replied to you, but no, I don’t think you did explain it well since you just have one small subsentence saying ”all as one file", which could mean other things.

To your problem, to my knowledge I don’t think this is possible if your movie is fragmented into various chapter files, to watch it as one. If you had them split as a CD1/CD2 sort of situation, that would work but its also not super neatly done.

My question to you, is this on Windows or Linux? Because on Linux, if you are not afraid of using the commandline, there are some CLI tools that can remerge videos for you, e.g. something like this askubuntu.com/…/how-to-merge-multiple-more-than-t…

Seeing this is run on CLI you can read up how to make a script out of it and automate the process, run it over your whole library. Will take a while and maybe you haven’t done this before, not sure.

Just looking at those screenshots made me nostalgic. I forgot how good the graphics were for that time and the fantastic 1st person mode, really cool.

For me it would awesome if they could achieve porting it to Android, I am not playing that much on PC anymore. But thats my problem obviously.

Jellyfin not reading mounted sshfs folders

I set up jellyfin with docker and it’s working fine with local files. I wanted to add some additional media files so I mounted a directory using sshfs. The directory is present with the media files and it is bound to a volume in Docker. But jellyfin doesn’t add the files. It doesn’t find the subdirectories or the media...

RootBeerGuy ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Seconded, its the first thing to check. I am only using local files but depending how I transfer files from other devices it seems they get different permissions assigned. I made it a regular workflow to just run chmod (linux system) over anything new I want to add.

RootBeerGuy ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Oh damn, I knew it got archived but not that you cannot download it anymore. Is it possible to move it from an old installation to a new one?

RootBeerGuy ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I found a thread on the jellyfin forums about this: forum.jellyfin.org/t-intro-skipper-project-dead

There are already forks of it: github.com/ConfusedPolarBear/intro-skipper/forks

Question is, any of those worth switching to?

RootBeerGuy ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

That was my hope the last time this came up, however you’d think if this was the case the Jellyfin devs would maybe communicate it as such and at least so far I haven’t seen anything official regarding that.

Best way to migrate user accounts plus user data to new installation?

I am going to soon start over with my homeserver that has jellyfin running on it and I’d like to take over all user accounts on there plus their collected data, like watched episodes, into the new installation. Its a linux system, no docker, next system is going to be the same basically....

RootBeerGuy OP ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

If thats the easiest way to do it, that would be a bit sad.

RootBeerGuy OP ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

That is what I planned, but after reading around a little it does not seem to be working that straightforward. Plus I wanted to use the opportunity to change my folder structures of my libraries a bit and this seems to also mess with things like taking over metadata for files. Same goes for user data it seems.

Found an old answer from 4 years ago where a Jellyfin dev said that migrating accounts and whatever else is on the roadmap but way down the line.

Eh, I think it depends on personal preference. I had an ASUS eee pc, second gen device I think and if I remember correctly it was a 10 inch one. I had no issues typing on it. In fact I wrote my thesis on it, in LaTEX, 100 pages. No problem, I liked it.
