We could also use a squirt bottle to squirt water at anyone whenever they try to use Google, or keep a can filled with pennies and shake it as a deterrent whenever they use Google.

Elon Musk demanded a cameo in Cyberpunk 2077 while wielding a 200 year old gun: "I was armed but not dangerous" (www.pcgamer.com)

While Elon’s then-partner Grimes was recording her part in the game as cyborg popstar Lizzy Wizzy, the erratic tech billionaire turned up with an antique firearm to “insist” on being included in the game. “The studio guys were like sweating,” Grimes is quoted as saying. Musk adds “I told them that I was armed but not...

I do the club because I happen to own one of the cars that Tik Tok wants to fucking steal, and I own it because I’m too poor for another one

Go steal some rich asshole’s SUV instead, Tik Tok

Believe me, I know, but it’s the only thing Hyundai offered me as a “solution” and I don’t really know an affordable way to make it more secure

I don’t drive much, so I guess that helps?

That’s a good idea! Honestly, I could probably get a cheap one that really works. Those cameras have really come down in price.

Installation would be the only barrier for me.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one avatar

The problem is seldom the cost of the equipment, but rather it’s the installation cost that gets you every time. By the time you pay for that, then there’s half the value of my stupid car.

I’m really kinda perturbed by Hyundai not manufacturing their cars with proper security in the first place.

Looks like I canceled Prime right on time. Literally just did it after having it for years because it no longer provides any meaningful benefit, and it’s grossly overpriced for what it is.

When I used to get two-day shipping all the way here in bumfuck, South Dakota, then it was worth it, but it’s faster now just to order from some other site.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one avatar

I haven’t received anything in 2 days since early 2020, and what finally made me cancel is they took forever to even ship one of my items that was in stock. I ordered two things, one was shipped by the seller and arrived in 3 or 4 days, the other was from the same seller but shipped by Amazon, and they didn’t even initiate shipping until a week later.

I was paying for a service that’s objectively worse than the norm.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one avatar

if you encounter this though, odds are the rest of the site will be pretty hostile to your needs as well though.

That’s a good point. There are better news sites that don’t do this, and they should get my traffic.

I love reader mode. I wish it were available on all web sites. Even on the example I linked, it works within the individual articles, but not on the home page.

I don’t really understand how reader mode works. Maybe there’s a reason for this, but a “reader mode on all pages” setting would be nice. Even if it introduced some bugs, I think it would still be worth it.

Oh by the way, I wish I could edit HTML. It’s one thing I’d like to learn just for personal use. I just need to set aside time to learn it, which is hard with my work schedule.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one avatar

Thank you for this important information! I have emailed ABC and referenced this event handler, trying to persuade them to make their site accessible. It will probably go nowhere, but I also asked for advice on webcompat, and that is where they sent me.

Thanks again!

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one avatar

Nice, thanks. I’m definitely going to be playing around with this!

I learned from a search that you can view the source on Firefox Android by adding view-source: before a URL, but I don’t seem to be able to edit it on mobile.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one avatar

Aw, that’s a bummer. It looks like the only way to do it is to connect it to a desktop PC for debugging.

There’s this, but I’d have to create a custom collection since it’s not a recommended add-on, which is a pain. I’ve heard they’re planning to allow us more freedom in which add-ons we use in the near future, so that will be nice.

I’m still going to start playing around in Firefox on WIndows and Linux though, so thanks for that.

I am a US citizen. I have emailed the web site about the problem, but I will do this as well. I’m not very educated about what constitutes non-compliance with ADA, but it’s worth asking them to look into. Many thanks!

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one avatar

Firefox has that same option. That’s what the post is about. Even with that option enabled, the user is unable to zoom.

You can try it on Brave, but softvision-raul-bucata on webcompat already test this on both Firefox and Chrome, and the site does not respond to this accessibility setting.

If you do test it on Brave and it works, would you kindly let me know? Thanks. abcnews.go.com

News sites consistently provide one of the worst user experiences on the web, so I shouldn’t be surprised! I submitted my complaint as well. Hopefully it will go somewhere.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one avatar

It’s interesting that it works, but not being able to move around the page would still make it inaccessible, unfortunately. I have filed an ADA report with the DOJ.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

The only zoom feature I’m aware of thar is built into android lets me set a static screen zoom that helps with system items, but would not allow me to zoom text on a web page.

Oh, I see it now! That’s pretty neat. It seems kinda finicky, and it will take some getting used to, but this will help out in a … pinch

When will people realise that google has tailored algorithms and we are not all experiencing the same search results?

You’re right. This is the real problem with search engines like Google and one reason I use SearXNG instances and Mojeek instead. Where I live, the algorithm is more likely to net content that is biased toward right-wing conspiracy theories and problematic agencies because of that algorithm. Any search engine that does this is not a valid search engine, in my opinion.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one avatar

I became hyper aware of it the first time I tried using Tik Tok, and I was served nothing but alt-right hate videos. Obviously, search engines aren’t usually quite so obvious, but for instance, people in my location are certainly more likely to net results connected to far-right ideas and agencies, because of the interests of people who live here.

I don’t like that idea at all. Search engines should only respond to deliberate input from the user imo. I know that’s a big ask for people to acclimate to appending “in [location name]” if they expect location specific results, but the convenience of just saying “hey Google, restaurants near me” is not worth the consequences.

Unfortunately, almost all search engines are complicit, including supposedly privacy friendly ones like Kagi, Qwant, and Startpage. I’m no longer recommending those to people. SearXNG and Mojeek are the only ones that don’t lean into the algorithmic and locational fuckery, but even that’s with a lot of tweaking the settings.

It’s no great mystery why things like fascism are on the rise. And people will say I’m in the minority for caring about this, and … yeah, that’s the problem.

Where we live, I’d run the A/C very few days in the summer. My husband gets so uncomfortable in the heat, though.

A/C sometimes makes me feel disproportionately cold. I’m not sure why. I can be outside working in the winter, no problem, but A/C is something else entirely.

I’ve certainly noticed the change. There are some posts lately that are indistinguishable from those on alt-right breeding grounds like 4chan and reddit. That’s why I wasn’t too gung-ho about persuading people to join Lemmy – there were a lot of people on reddit I was hoping wouldn’t come.

I’ve started using raddle more, which comes with its own problems, but at least I don’t have to start by convincing people not to hate marginalized groups every time I open my inbox.

“Dr.” Eric Berg is a quack and a grifter, so deplatform him as well, yeah I totally agree with that. I’d ban his ass from any space I moderate.

Before you know maybe your channels you like on YouTube get censored as well

If they start spreading lies that could get people killed, then I fully support that. I’m an anarchist, so I believe in equity for all, and such things need to be direct-actioned the fuck out of every community, along with other anti-human shitstains like the anti-trans losers and capitalists.
