It's a very good point. Being nice is hard work. Why the fuck would anyone keep doing around the clock?
I mean look at Canadians. They'll say sorry then pull out your kidneys with their bare hands and use them as hockey pucks or waterboard you with maple syrup.

People need a place where they can be an asshole in peace.

Lath ,

It's about pay. If the market is flooded, the hospitals will be free to lower their wages substantially because they'll have more replacements available or they'll be working with more people on the same budget.

Lath , (edited )

On game shop websites looking for some sweet deals. But I'm a cheap bastard, so I'm only just looking.

Right now I'm struggling with buying Divinity Original Sin at 8€, at an 80% discount from 40€, because I think it's expensive.

Edit: Interestingly, had it been 80% of 30€, which is 6€, I would've bought it without hesitation.

Lath ,

Are you sure you want to insert a cheat code?

Yes.

Allyournudesarebelongtous

Cheat activated!

Lath ,

The best part is that you can everything exactly as they want and it still won't be good enough.

RE: Is Ernest still here? ( kbin.social )

I check in here quite often, but for now, I'm just focusing on clearing spam and keeping the instance alive. In January, I was working on the AP module, and there has been significant progress in the work, which hasn't been publicly published yet. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the year, I developed a skin condition that...

Lath ,

Did you know spring allergies could be chemically induced?
Good luck with your procedures.

Lath ,

The goblins I know don't brood. They plot.

Lath ,

You assume they're solely for attraction.

Copilot misses the question, elaborates on topic I was speaking aloud instead. ( lemmy.world )

Was using my SO's laptop, I had been talking (not searching, or otherwise typing) about some VPN solutions for my homelab, and had the curiosity to use the new big copilot button and ask what it can do. The beginning of this context was actually me asking if it can turn off my computer for me (it cannot) and I ask this....

Lath ,

I believe it uses your browser history to gauge your interests and bases its responses partly on the type of stuff you participate in repeatedly.
So if for example you browse websites related to privacy more than anything else, it takes that into account and gets all creepy about it.

Lath ,

That's an opinion, not a fact. Here's another opinion.

Constantine adopted Christianity because the people adopted Christianity and if he didn't follow suit, bad shit would've happened, mostly to him.
And the capital was moved to Constantinople to account for the growing asian influence that was beginning to threaten the empire. The west fucking up after that would have happened regardless of the capital being there.

The Abbasids fucked up the same way and no one gives them shit about it.

Lath ,

Yeah, the list is hit or miss. Some of the games are genuinely good and the recent baby diaper toss just seems childish, while some games are just plain bad regardless.

Lath ,

This reminds me of Star Trek Voyager's Chakotay(?) and total fraud that "helped" with the native background.

Lath ,

They're programmed to follow the data. And we should be thankful for that. Imagine if they were programmed to follow the lore.

Is it normal to forget your own age?

I'm still in my 20s, but as of a few years ago I started forgetting what's my exact age. I always have to stop and recalculate it each time someone asks me. I get asked fairly infrequently, but when I do it's a bit weird/embarrassing that I have to say "wait, let me calculate". (I know when I was born, of course.)...

Lath ,

Age, height, weight. Forget them all the time because they're not much use day to day

Conservative Christian women in red states are rising up to defend IVF ( www.washingtonpost.com )

“They were attacking my faith. It bothered me to the core,” said Sara, a Southern Baptist who identifies as pro-life. “Because I had never viewed [IVF] as wrong, as anything other than beautiful and bringing another life into the world. … I’ve actually had a lot of friends pray for me and encourage me and help me along...

Lath ,

Adding oneself to the considerations for bad things happening is an acquired trait.

So many bad drivers despite car accidents being a leading cause of death proves that we suck at calculating risk assessment.

Lath ,

It can be either. Time is a relative concept that depends on the perception of the user.

Lath ,

You're not wrong. It's only criminal on paper and when it makes the news, but the fines to stop and prevent it are minimal.

Lath ,

Lol. It's common place for companies to use pirated software in order to reduce costs.
Licences and subscriptions can get expensive, so when companies get forced to increase costs, they tend to fuck off somewhere else.

Lath ,

Lol. You think Italy is rich? The lower you go down the boot, the poorer the leather.
Remember the bridge that collapsed because the company that built it cut corners? That's the standard of business there.

Lath ,

Italy isn't a 1st world country. It only looks that way at the top.

Lath ,

Because there's a lot of competition, these companies have to focus on eye-catching features that make bosses drool.
As an employee, your needs matter little.

Lath ,

Depends on context. Do I get fantastic powers or just regular "dump 'em in the middle of somewhere and let them figure it out"?

If the former, I gotta fix that Harry Potter world. It ticks me off.
If the latter, a version of reality where people stay true to their ideals and don't just spot random bullshit. It might be better, it might be worse, I want to see the difference.

Lath ,

You should flirt with her mom instead. The jealousy will throw her into your embrace. I saw it in a.. documentary.

I find the """man up""" school of thought generally works for me when faced w a tough situation but 97% of the time it's presented as an obnoxious show of bravado. What are better ways to phrase this?

like, if i'm feeling bad but force myself to do something, i usually feel better. how to maintain the usefulness of this advice without presenting it as 'fuck your feelings', in that usual arrogant right wing sort of way

Lath ,

Get prehistoric, go full barbarian, hulk it out, become psychosocial.

Lath ,

The parent company had issues with an employee union. Don't know what's the follow-up to that, but it's likely a head-up-in-ass scenario.

Lath ,

Ask not of others what you will not or cannot do yourself.

Lath ,

Yes.

Civil war refers to a war between two or more ideologies or groups belonging to the same country. The only civil thing about it is the lack of WMDs and even that isn't a certainty.

Lath ,

Whenever the topic is discussed, this video must be posted or else there will be bloodshed.

Some guy named Bill when it was time to propose a charter of rights for the citizens of their country:
"Fellas, I have this crazy idea you would not believe!..."

Lath ,

You should also be old enough to understand that the leadership from back then is dead and buried.

Lath ,

We shouldn't but we do.Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. And it's quite easy to forget the past when you haven't experienced it.
Those in charge now aren't the ones that suffered. They don't know the pain so they ignore the pain of others.

Lath ,

In some cases it's functional. Not all genitals grow as they're supposed to.

Lath ,

Too many very for today's society where genetic anomalies and cancerous growths are on the rise.

Lath ,

Kira was a rebel at heart.

Bashir was in the "I've been genetically modified, which is illegal, so should I have kids?" camp, if I remember correctly.

Sisko loved his wife.

Odo was a gelatinous blob.

Jadzia was influenced by past multiple personalities, so she likely loved pans and pots.

O'Brien was a weeb. He only loved his waifu, the transporter room.

Jake was a reporter. He loved crawling into holes he shouldn't have been crawling into.

Quark was a businessman. He loved risky ventures.

Lath ,

Better.

Lath ,

Few people will remember him, but if any are spurred into action by his act, then it won't be a completely wasteful loss of life.

Lath ,

If they're making this public now, is something about to happen? Or is it just pre-election jitters?

Lath ,

Most people can't handle the truth, so they settle for being right.

Lath ,

I think Nazis were respected members of society in the US before the war. And the theory goes US joined against Germany because they feared a takeover from within otherwise.

Lath ,

An IAF soldier reading this article:
"Aww, how sad. I wonder if there's anything I could do to help? Ooh, I know!"
He then proceeds to scribble "Bread" on one of the munitions he's loading.

A second soldier notices this and comes near.
"Hey man, that's not cool. What's she going to do with just one bread? We need a dozen loaves at least!"
He starts scribbling as well.

Their commander looks on speechless and shakes his head at their antics.
"What a bunch of degenerates."
He places his own marker aside and goes to reprimand his subordinates. Behind him a missile newly babtized 'Dildo of Doom' lies in silence.

Lath ,

It does make sense, but priorities are different so it's less noticeable.

From a military point of view, starving the enemy is a victory in itself. Means fewer numbers to deal with.

And that's all these people are to them, the enemy.

Lath ,

And the blame lies entirely on the companies themselves. False advertising to attract investors and placate shareholders that means lying through their teeth to make a fuss and then backtracking through language manipulation.
They created the media that exists today. The resulting mess is their responsibility.

Lath ,

Likely not. Taste should be fruity, with a hint of olives.
Stirred, not shaken.

You should probably check with your bartender and change your medication for a while. Try Bud Light.
