tell the actual difference between those things. It’s not all subjective.

Can you provide a source for that?
No, not this one.

In Québec, (some) of the grocery price tags include a fine print with the $/100g.
They go out of their way to make this the smallest thing possible though.
There's plenty of other misleading tagging going on too.
And I think it's only certain items, maybe not all.
It's a good idea and helpful, but should be more prominent and apply to literally all foods.

And that's before tax, although not all foods are taxed.

I thought lemmy was an anti censorship effort, was I wrong?

    Cool project.
TBH, I'm just about to locally ban a few kbin magazines that are just completely overrun with spam.

Alright, so, the original rule 1 that was referenced in the first modlog when you posted this to /c/worldnews refers to the community rules for /c/worldnews :

Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
        Post news articles only
Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
Title must match the article headline
        Not United States Internal News
        Recent (Past 30 Days)
Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners

You then broke rule 2 on /c/technology, which I think a mod explained well.

On /c/youshouldknow, you were also breaking rule 1, which is a different rule 1 than before becaise it's a different community.

    /c/youshouldknow community's rule 1:

Rule 1- All posts must begin with YSK

Like... every community has their own rules.
Here, you lucked out and don't break any obvious rules whether you read them or not.

PrusaSlicer - Need some quick help with prototype printing

Hi everyone - I'm doing some prototyping on a part I'm designing. The final part will take up nearly the entire build plate, but for a test print, I'm using a negative modifier to remove 80% of the part, leaving only a sliver to print. The problem is that once sliced, the part left to be printed is way over on the edge of the...

How to constructively protest against AI voice transcription at work?

As a medical doctor I extensively use digital voice recorders to document my work. My secretary does the transcription. As a cost saving measure the process is soon intended to be replaced by AI-powered transcription, trained on each doctor's voice. As I understand it the model created is not being stored locally and I have no...

Ironically, GPT can kinda get you started here...

To present your case effectively to your bosses and colleagues, focus on simplifying the technical aspects and emphasizing the potential risks associated with using a cloud-based AI transcription service:

    1. Privacy Concerns: Explain that using a cloud-based solution means entrusting sensitive biometric data (your voice) to a third-party provider. Emphasize that this data could potentially be accessed or misused without your consent.

    2. Security Risks: Highlight the risks of data breaches and unauthorized access to your voice recordings stored in the cloud. Mention recent high-profile cases of data breaches to illustrate the potential consequences.

    3. Voice Cloning: Explain the concept of voice cloning and how AI algorithms can be trained to mimic your voice using the data stored in the cloud. Use simple examples or analogies to illustrate how this could be used for malicious purposes, such as impersonation or fraud.

    4. Lack of Control: Stress that you have no control over how your voice data is used or stored once it's uploaded to the cloud. Unlike a local solution where you have more oversight and control, a cloud-based service leaves you vulnerable to the policies and practices of the provider.

    5. Legal and Ethical Implications: While you acknowledge that there may be existing recordings of your voice online, emphasize that knowingly contributing to the creation of a database that could potentially be used for unethical or illegal purposes raises serious concerns about professional ethics and personal privacy.

    6. Alternative Solutions: Suggest alternative solutions that prioritize privacy and security, such as using local AI transcription software that does not upload data to the cloud or implementing stricter data protection policies within your organization.

By framing your concerns in terms of privacy, security, and ethical considerations, you can help your bosses and colleagues understand the potential risks associated with using a cloud-based AI transcription service without coming across as paranoid. Highlighting the importance of protecting sensitive data and maintaining control over personal information should resonate with individuals regardless of their level of technical expertise.

If you're open to suggestions, I would suggest writing a bit more context first, introducing yourself.
Introduce the game, explain what the game is about, where it's at, what to expect, then, maybe mention the wishlist situation and why they're even needed.

You'll likely have more traction that way than just doing the "wishlist this quick. Link" format of your previous posts.

TL;DR: Show people how passionate you are about your game.

    Bring dedicated servers back.
Can't have persistent server capacity issues if I can throw my own hardware at it.
This also gets rid of match making, which is whatever. Just give me a server browser and I'll find a few favorites and hang on those.
It can also keep working long after the companies give up on them too.

Personally I use a ZFS pool in my Linux homelab that’s been rock solid. However the pucker factor would be high if a drive fails.

I use a ZFS pool for my home stuff too.
To minimize the pucker factor, I have an extra drive of the same capacity and I rotate through them in the mirror pool.
It makes good practice replacing and resilvering drives and since it's a mirror it's also kind of an offline backup.
Also, I had bought the initial drives at the same time and figured rotating though them would minimize the odds of failing around the same time.
I'm much less wary of the whole thing now that I've resilvered the drives several times.

    InEnduringGrowStrong ,
    @InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yea, if anything it makes good practice.
Swapping hard drives in the larger data pool isn't as daunting anymore.
Although, I gotta be honest, swapping drives in the zpool from which proxmox boots itself is still a bit iffy to me.
I had to set a reminder, because otherwise I won't do it often enough.

At least back in the day, multiplayer games released with the server you could self host.
Or you'd find a chill one that you liked and it became its own little community of sorts with regulars and whatnot.
Now, some games make it genuinely hard to even play multiple rounds back to back with the same people.
The ranking system and match making superceded the lobby.
There's still a lot of enjoyable games, gems even, but there's a lot of hot garbage too.

    I don't think it's (just) Internet's fault.
Hell, we'd play Diablo over dial-up and it was amazing at the time.
I think it's more the corpo greed making its way everywhere.
No mTx, no subscription, no battle pass, no unlocking bs, no cosmetics, no unending daily grinds, just you, the game, maybe a buddy if your family didn't need the phone.
DRM didn't exist, they'd ask you questions about the game manual instead.
I remember bringing the Fallout manual on a trip and reading through it thinking about what character I'd make. Now everything is digital only, you're almost lucky if it comes with a wallpaper.
