Yep. It's nice to know you're in control of it. Not like bloody AnyDesk which decided one day out of the blue to remove the TCP Tunneling feature I was using.

Johnny Castaway can live on at least.

Nice. Mine runs on top of the fish tank on an old netbook. What sort of tablet?

My 2014 Toshiba i7 still chugs along. Technically it's two laptops in one as the first one if it was rebooted while hot the GPU would go all 1024x768 in the top left corner. The replacement mainboard I got ended up being an AMD one but if I enable the AMD chip in device manager it simply dies so it uses the onboard Intel HD graphics instead.

1GB SSD, plus 2GB HDD in an optical bay adapter.

It's on its third battery - works for about an hour but jumps to 7% within a minute of running on battery, so if I put it to sleep etc it won't go again without power.

Why Hmm?

MP3DirectCut - https://mpesch3.de/ - might also suit. I use it a lot for community radio stuff as it doesn't have to pre-load the entire file, making extracting interviews from the MP3 log files a very quick process. Cue the file, B for begin, N for end, File, Save selection, done.

Firefox on a Realme phone gives me the Apple variant.

It it's any consolation, it barely works under ideal conditions anyway.

shell:startup if it's particularly useful.

I've been using Resilio Sync for the same purposes. Syncthing is probably better.

It's always fun getting paid by Google for not being a parent to a child in my household.

Is funny how often they ask.

They seem to check if I'm still married each month as well. Easy money.

I think the XT only supported CGA graphics, and the monitor pictured should be monochrome?

Keep with show checkboxes any good for this? Works for me and my co worker.

I am assuming someone will write a converter / exporter and that we'll have at least a week's warning before it gets its place in the Google Graveyard.

If Google Takeout outlives it, we might already have one.

Meta discontinues Messenger Lite for Android, it will be unavailable after Sep 18. Users need to install regular Messenger app instead (beehaw.org)

I have not found any news article on this on a whim. Because my friends and family, I need to use Facebook Messenger, and Messenger Lite was a OK client - lightweight, no unnecessary features, etc., compared to the regular Messenger app....

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

This might be a bit annoying. On my Realme phone, no amount of setting changes stops it from killing Messenger randomly. It didn't kill Lite so I could trust it, and put up with it despite its issues.

Yes and it's fun getting Windows Live Mail 2012 to keep working at the best of times.

Every year or so, have to add these registry entries to revive it

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail]
"RecreateFolderIndex"=dword:00000001
"RecreateStreamIndex"=dword:00000001
"RecreateUIDLIndex"=dword:00000001

They'd prefer Outlook Express.

YSK that restroom hand dryers blow fecal bacteria onto your hands (journals.asm.org)

There was a peer-reviewed report published in the journal for Applied and Environmental Microbiology that studied the amount of bacteria that was blown from hand dryers in 36 public restrooms at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. The sample from the study concluded that as many as 60 colonies of bacteria were...

I don't care about that. What's worse for me is that the Dyson ones are so damn loud. It's a pain having to hold one arm over your head in the stall to cover both ears.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

It has at least one advantage relative to ie6.exe - it's cross platform.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

Yes it's a buggy thing but it works mostly.

I ran into the unusual situation this week where I couldn't put a new article into a kbin magazine (community / subreddit) from my kbin account, but could get it to stick if I did it via Lemmy.

It's kinda annoying how the app store lists all the apps, but then tells you they're not compatible only when you go to install them. I think I prefer the Play store method instead where they just don't appear at all.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

Interesting. Maybe it thought you owned more than one device and was showing you things that you could install on one of those?

Maybe I'm wrong. Just seems to happen all the time with older iPhones and iPads.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

I have an original Galaxy Tab. Searching for apps for it last year didn't give many useful results.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

I second that. Have been migrating devices over to eneloop batteries successfully. (other NiMH batteries go flat after a month even if not used.)

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

I suspect shenanigans. Possibly someone detonated something in the dunny, resulting in the marks seen.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

Not OP, but I like to see upvote and downvote counts separately. Mastodon integration is also good.

I_Miss_Daniel , to firefox
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

Finally migrated back to Firefox today after a multi year user of Chrome.

What pushed me over the edge? Most of my app icons (keep, pulse, calender, whatsapp) stopped opening in their own windows again.

I had to install the PWA extension in Firefox to get that working again, and it's going to be a slight hassle having to copy and paste URLs from all those windows, but I'm tired of fixing the task bar icons.

Could've gone to Edge since it would work out of the box, but I like Firefox. (except for no native PWA support.)

Edit: found I can right click links in the PWA instances and use the send to other device option to open them in my main Firefox window.

Still waiting for the reverse cycle microwave...

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

That's more like a reverse convection oven. I'm looking for something that freezes the food in a few minutes by stopping the molecules moving :)

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

Yes. Firefox has its own sync feature. It's fairly robust.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

Yes it seems like in those instances, maybe the page hasn't finished loading completely, and waiting a little bit before retrying the action fixes it.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

Possibly related. For the last few weeks I've not been able to use kbin on Chrome on Android. Each time I try to log in I get "Invalid CSRF token."

Never a problem in Firefox on Android though.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

Your post has an incorrect title.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

Mine is still titled "Reddit for Lemmy..." which would be a rather controversial product :)

Maybe it's just cached with that title on kbin, where I'm seeing it.

I_Miss_Daniel ,
@I_Miss_Daniel@kbin.social avatar

I can never sign in on mobile Chrome any more, just gives an invalid csrf error. So I only use it in mobile Firefox now.
