It has been a hard journey my boys, but I am finally here! :)
Noki is a good boy. (lemmy.world)
Even if his brothers don’t recognize his scent. The other 2 are still hissing at him but it’s getting better. He got outside for like 2 hours and they think he’s stranger danger now. 🤷🏼♂️

Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers’ The president has repeatedly disparaged the intelligence of service members, and asked that wounded veterans be kept out of military parades, multiple sources tell The Atlantic. (www.theatlantic.com)

Reddit Activity Plummeted After The Protests - by Adam Bumas (www.garbageday.email)
Last month marked the official end of the Reddit protests. Any subreddit that had changed its rules or gone dark — or forced its users to post exclusively about John Oliver — has now gone back to normal. On the surface, it seems like a complete victory for Reddit, but things aren’t so simple when a major element of that...
NASA moves a step closer to supersonic passenger flights (www.cnn.com)
In July, Lockheed Martin completed the build of NASA’s X-59 test aircraft, which is designed to turn sonic booms into mere thumps, in the hope of making overland supersonic flight a possibility. Ground tests and a first test flight are planned for later in the year. NASA aims to have enough data to hand over to US regulators...
What do people use to start a blog nowadays? (kbin.social)
Now that Medium has fully enshittified, and Substack is well on its way, where can I publish for free with good discoverability and no paywall? I've considered starting my own blog site using a static site generator, but I figured I'd get people's thoughts prior to doing that. Thanks!
The Main Lesson From ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Should Be ‘People Hate Microtransactions’ (www.forbes.com)
If reception to Baldur’s Gate says anything, it’s that people hate microtransactions in their AAA games.
Hook an old FPS gamer up. Anyone else fondly miss "assassin mode" from Soldier of Fortune (2000)? (en.wikipedia.org)
I have never played another FPS that had a mode like this, and it was so damn fun and self-balancing....

We used AI to help airlines choose routes that are less likely to cause contrails, minimizing the environmental impact of flights.
The Reddit Protest Is Finally Over. Reddit Won. (gizmodo.com)
The last major holdouts in the protest against Reddit’s API pricing relented, abandoning the so-called “John Oliver rules” which only allowed posts featuring the TV host. The article describes it as "the official end of the battle," which seems an overstatement to me, but it's the certainly the end of the initial phase....

Barbarians of the fediverse, how about y'all move on from massive axes? (kbin.social)
Don't get me wrong, I know many of you also use these huge axes to manage your body hair, but enough is enough. How about spears with heads the size of a flounder? What about flounders? Have you ever seen someone get hit with a two-handed flounder? Kitchen appliances? There's a lot more creative ways to smite your enemies. You...

This July 4th, let's remember that unfair economic treatment was a major cause of the American Revolutionary War. Our revolt has this much in common. (kbin.social)
There were numerous factors that led to the revolution, but a key one was unfair taxation. The British parliament was in a position of power and thought that they could behave with impunity for further profits....
People in /r/redditalternatives are talking about a "Reddit 2.0" What website would fill that role? (kbin.social)
On Reddit at reddit.com/r/redditalternatives, people are talking about a "Reddit 2.0." What do you suggest?
What's your opinion on cross-posting?
One of the hurdles to change for users switching from reddit to a federated platform is less content. The logic goes: “smaller community, less content, I can see i’m missing out on stuff over there so I’m not going to switch away”....

For those in the know about privacy laws and the such. What is a proper response to reddit's claim that they cannot remove all the information associated to an account without first the user removing all of their posts? (kbin.social)

While larger, more general communities are thriving on the Fediverse - I'm missing out on the niche communities (kbin.social)
Gaming, news, tech, general literature. All of these are somewhat thriving, with a steady influx of posts and comments. At the same time, the userbase is sorely lacking for more niche communities. In my case it'd be stuff like poetry, yoga, religion, linguistics, meditation. Or many other communities I'd doubt they'd form a...

Ways to contribute monetarily? (kbin.social)
I imagine that with the influx of new users, instances paid by volunteers will be stretched. Some I imagine are creating instances, to spread out the load, but some of us cannot / don't want to create and manage instances. For these efforts to be successful I imagine that monetary support would be helpful....

Why we need to move on from kbin.social (kbin.social)
I think most of us who moved here from Reddit are enjoying our time here on kbin.social. We've left a lot of the riff-raff behind us and made new friends with intelligent, thoughtful members of kbin, Lemmy, Mastodon, etc.....
