Thanks for pointing out, I've updated the how-to. Hopefully that covers it.

Please can you share a screenshot?

Here's what I see what I select the burger menu while on the magazine.

Maybe your screen size or text size is different to mine though.

Thanks! Let me know any feedback :)

Thanks! I was considering making a separate guide for mods and just linking it from here, because it's already pretty long.

Friend OP ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Yes that's right, it's the 'tags' menu in the 'magazine panel'.

I was considering making a separate guide for mods and just linking it from here, because it's already pretty long.

Friend OP ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Ah ok thanks I understand now. Unfortunately there is no zero-click solution that I know of. The only thing I can offer is the one-click burger menu solution.

I'm putting together a wishlist so I'll add it there :)

Thanks for the long and thoughtful comment. This is really helpful. I will do my best to take on board your points over the next few days.

Friend OP ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

No but it's a frequently requested functionality. I think it would be great :)

How to add a community from the Fediverse if it does not appear when you search for it in kbin:

Select the site search option (magnifying glass icon at the top), and search for the community using communityname@domain format.

It will then be available via the standard magazine search function for you and any future users.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

RIF had it best. Click the thumbnail for the link, and the post title for the other options such as view comments.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Kbin all day. Reminds me of old forums so it's got the nostalgia appeal.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

It's just a performance issue, I've had delays getting my notifications too.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Yes there's a number on the dropdow and yes they disappear when you open the article and view the comments.

If Reddit phased out 3rd party apps gradually and tactfully, do you think this would have gone the way it has? The Reddit app is terrible, but is it any worse than navigating and learning the fediverse so far? Be honest. ( kbin.social )

I've been thinking a lot about why I decided to come here and I know it started off as a "they can't make me use their shitty app!" while simultaneously using test apps that crash and navigating less content than Reddit. What is the primary motivation for all of this anymore? Is anger enough of a motivation to keep people away...

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Yep kbin feels like a forum/discussion/community from the outset. Official reddit app feels like a poor man's Instagram.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

mobile web is irritating in its "use the app" pushiness.

This has created so much bad will for me.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Have you got the top bar switched on? If so switch off and try again.

/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up ( kbin.social )

Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...

If it's a fairly bitesize standalone packet of info I'll do a post. If it's in depth or meant trigger a self-contained discussion I'll do an article.

A quick guide to creating and moderating magazines ( kbin.social )

Hello kbin! Since there’s a lot of new users migrating to this platform, I decided to make a short guide to creating and moderating a magazine. This will be a quick and short guide since there will be a lot of new features coming soon. I might make a new guide when a few major tools come, but in the meantime, I will...

Thanks for the shout out to /m/quickstart :)

Just a thought on the description field where you have said...

Description are short blurbs that you can use to describe your magazine. This part is self-explanatory, so I won’t go to deep on this one.

I am almost certain that the magazine search feature references the description field, which I why I have made sure to put keywords in the description field of both of the subs I moderate. I've tested it a couple of times so it might be worth mentioning here.

Great write up!

Any way to link directly to context of post? ( kbin.social )

Hey all! I’m noticing that when I get a response to one of my comments, I don’t see anywhere on mobile to click that will take me directly to the context within the thread. Am I missing something? Is this a feature that’s planned for the future?

Hi there, moderator for m/quickstart here (shameless plug).

I'm not sure whether this will solve your problem because I'm not sure exactly which screen you are starting from, but you can try this solution and let me know if it doesn't work.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Welcome! I set up m/quickstart to that end. And yes you are right it does search the description field.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Thanks, I was trying to figure out tables earlier!

I just noticed that notifications for replies to comments/posts are disabled by default, to enable them you just need to go to your settings and check the relevant boxes ( kbin.social )

It might be a good idea to have comment replies turned on by default, I feel like it'll help drive discussion/engagement but that's ultimately up to the devs

I have heard a request to make these default has been accepted so it's in the works.

In the meantime if anyone want to know to turn them on, head over to my post on m/quickstart.

File path selection works for me on android.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Sorry I should have been clearer. I can select a file and then post the image. I did it on this post. Just don't bother clicking upload file and go straight to Add comment.

Edit: I just posted a screenshot to m/quickstart

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Success! Yeah I guess the image functionality isn't fully fleshed out yet.

Interesting. I got a notification for your comment. But then again I do have federation turned off.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

As far as I can tell a comment is a response to a thread. A post is a microblog entry and a reply is a response to a post.

OK I think the reason you have to scroll down more is because you may have been viewing a specific comment at the time.

When you go to the actual 'homepage' of the magazine you don't have to scroll past the user information.

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

I have taken the executive decision to turn federation off for a similar reason.

I was recommended a vile post on the sidebar from m/random which I definitely never want to see the likes of again. I did report it but since it was from another server I don't really know where that goes.

I'm not going to turn federation back on again until I find a way to prevent it. Perhaps we should start a blacklist?

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Thank you and I appreciate the write up but I had actually already blacklisted a few domains.

Unfortunately that did not prevent the post from appearing in m/random because it was from a domain that I had not already blacklisted.

I simply do not want to have to act reactively once I have already been exposed to the vile content. At that point my experience is already ruined whether I block it afterwards or not.

Another reasonable approach might be to block m/random which I might consider doing if I am tempted to enable federation again, but for now I'm just going to play it safe and stick to kbin.social.

"kbin How To" on front page would help people new to kbin ( kbin.social )

I feel like a highlighted basic "kbin how to" on the frontpage would really help kbin in the beginning, I still feel like I don't know exactly how all of this works, didn't knew what things like "boost" means, the difference between adding a new article/ post/ photo is still not clear to me. Just a really simple 1 minute how to...

Friend ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Funny you should say that because created a magazine this morning for this exact reason!

It's called m/quickstart and it's intended to get new users up an running as quickly as possible. Don't expect too much there's literally 2 subscribers and it's basically just me posting mobile screenshots on the microblog with the tag .

Friend OP ,
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Sorry I should have been clearer, but was just trying out the photo feature. If you go into the settings you'll see a bunch of different notification settings.
