Red Lobster eyes bankruptcy option after $11M in losses from endless shrimp ( abcnews.go.com )

"Last year, Red Lobster reported $11 million in operating losses following its flubbed 'Ultimate Endless Shrimp' deal, which backfired when it reeled in too many customers after the limited-time promo became a permanent menu fixture last June. The restaurant chain later reported $12.5 million in losses in the fourth quarter of...

Why can you even order alcohol on a commercial flight?

Edit: I don't really know why I'm getting downvoted, it's a genuine question. Smoking on planes was banned in the 90s, so why is drinking still allowed? It arguably affects people around you just as much.

FireWire400 ,
@FireWire400@lemmy.world avatar

Because it somehow seems like a huge safety hazard to have a bunch of drunk people doing drunk people stuff in a plane

It is valid, in my opinion, to assume a person wearing a band shirt to be a fan of that particular band and while I wouldn't torture them with trivia questions I would at least expect them to give me a coherent answer to a question like "You like Led Zeppelin, eh?".

I wear band shirts not only because I like that particular band but as a way for like-minded people to maybe start a conversation with me at social gatherings.

I agree, people focus too much on the gfx downgrade controversy.

Pokémon Channel may be one of the worst Pokémon games ever released; it's annoying to play, incredibly tedious and teaches kids to watch more TV instead of less.

I really liked playing it as a child. The thing is, I can't for the life of me remember why I even liked it that much.

Sharing polyphonic ringtones over infrared. Hell yeah, that was pretty awful.

What should I add to my '90s website?

So I'm currently toying around with NeoCities, and decided to trial it by building your classic mid '90s Geocities/Tripod/Angelfire pastiche website.

Some of the most important elements are already in place.

Tile background? Large font? Heading in bright pink with a shadow? Unusual colour choices? Random cat gifs? Under construction gif? Check! Check! Check!

In the true spirit of the '90s DIY web, some more pages (including the links page) are coming soon.

(I'm thinking of adding a page dedicated to either Britney or a nu-metal band.)

You can see the page so far here: https://that90ssite.neocities.org/

There are a few things that I want to add to make it complete, and I'm looking for suggestions.

The first, is to embed a midi file that plays automatically. Any suggestions on the best way of doing this?

Second, it's just not going to be complete without a guestbook.

Third, any webring suggestions?

Fourth, what's the best way of adding a java chat room in 2024?

Finally, anything else that really needs to be a part of a great '90s website?

UPDATE: Thanks for all the feedback! I've added more annoying GIFs, a guestbook, a links page, and a cyber cat hangout.

Every 2-3 years I'd say. I kept my previous phone, a Samsung Galaxy A50, until its contract ran out and sold it afterwards (didn't really like it that much tbh). I plan on using my Pixel 6 Pro for as long as possible, though.

We still have hundreds of Latitude 5570s deployed at work and other than the occasional battery failure they're really rock solid.

It's a shame they don't support Windows 11.

The only thing that really keeps me from wanting a Framework 16 is there not being a TrackPoint keyboard available....

FireWire400 ,
@FireWire400@lemmy.world avatar

I think it's more accurate and less fatiguing than using the track pad. Scrolling especially feels way better, even compared to two-finger scrolling on a track pad.

None, because it would get annoying after, like, one copy

Do you often hear the ringing of switching power supplies and devices when you are in a quiet space?

I'm curious, how many people are aware of these sounds. I have designed, etched, and built my own switching power supplies along with winding my own transformers. I am aware of the source of the noise. So, does anyone else hear these high frequency sounds regularly?

FireWire400 ,
@FireWire400@lemmy.world avatar

Despite me having tinnitus, I hear those sounds very clearly in quiet environments. They annoy the crap out of me...

FireWire400 ,
@FireWire400@lemmy.world avatar

My main laptop is making similar noises all the time, I think they come from the CPU.

FireWire400 ,
@FireWire400@lemmy.world avatar

I thought it was maybe some kind of audio chip interference coming from the CPU as it's not tied to cursor movement in my case

What's gorey about this? The program is called "System Update" and needs to be updated to be able to receive system software updates.

Yeah, it sounds a bit funny but I've seen that happen with many OEM update utilities. Even Windows Update once told me that itself needed an update, it's a perfectly normal thing.

The PlayStation 3. It did everything: games, movies, music, streaming, online gaming, all in arguably the coolest looking console ever.

I'm still a little upset the whole boomerang controller idea never came back, though...

Probably something by Corey Feldman if we go by artistic value alone, although I'd argue that Noise Music sounds even worse.

I've once went down the rabbit hole of "Power Electronics", which is like an extremist subgenre of Noise Music and in my opinion some of the worst "music" I've listened to.
