I'm starting to see some serious downsides to being able to see who downvotes you. ( kbin.social )

A few days ago I downvoted someone's comment, and the next day I happened to notice every single comment I've ever made had at least one downvote. All from the person I dared to downvote the ONE time. I straight up asked why they did it, and they seem to think I'm an "obvious" troll account that "apparently just exist to...

I have the downvote button hidden completely using the KES script because of that issue.

Reddit allowing you to hide your own up/downvotes to others is a really nice privacy feature that I wish the Fediverse in general had, but unfortunately the nature of federation doesn't make that possible unless you prevent them federating to other servers.

The game was designed with solo play in mind but later content is much easier if you play with other players. There is matchmaking so you don't need to work about making a party ahead of time.

I posted a comment about the game before here. The game has improved since it launched, but if running around grinding for hours to improve your gear at the endgame doesn't sound appealing then you most likely won't enjoy it still.

SEGA will be implementing Wellbia's anti-cheat program into Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis ( pso2.com )

SEGA will be implementing Wellbia's anti-cheat (Xigncode3) into Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis after 11 years of using nProtect GameGuard. They will allow you to choose which anti-cheat to use, but Xigncode3 is known to be more invasive and restrictive on what it allows to run....

Does usage of third party youtube apps necessitate a VPN in the near future?

Greetings y’all. I’ve been using ways to circumvent YouTube ads for years now. I’d much rather donate to creators directly instead of using Google as a middle man, needing YouTube Premium. If even pay for premium for just a add free version, if the price wouldn’t be so outrageous. I’ve So far used adblockers, Vanced...

I'm not sure how using a VPN would help in this situation if you are concerned about having your YouTube account banned? Would you being using that VPN while signed out and with cookies/site data cleared?

They've added more to do but the main gameplay loop still involves running around defeating enemies and getting loot.

  • Since January 2023 they released the 4th region Stia, as as well as story that goes beyond that. The areas that they've added since the 3rd region Kvaris have their own gimmicks to use. They've not released any new regions since then as they said they want to focus on other parts of the game.
  • There's a new Creative Space feature that allows you to build some very impressive stuff.
  • The class level cap is now 75 and they've added a load of class skills for each class as well as handed out buffs.
  • Since launch they added the Braver (Katana & Bow), Bouncer (Jet Boots and Soaring/Dual Blades), Waker (summons familiars with their Harmonizer) and Slayer (Gunblade) classes.
  • Leciel is a quest they added that changes its layout, obtainable buffs and end boss each day. Running it gives you near-endgame augment capsules for your gear.
  • ARKS Rankings are now run weekly and task you with running existing content to get the highest score or best time and place onto a leaderboard. What this content is varies each week, but it can involve defeating a boss quickly, or completing a Trainia dungeon as fast as you can, or racing on hoverboards. The higher you get on the leaderboard the more ranking badges you get which you can spend on cosmetics, some gear and other prizes.
  • Alliances can now compete in weekly rankings by collecting points from completing Alliance Tasks (which also give Alliance Badges). The best Alliances are rewarded with Meseta (the in-game currency).
  • It's not really a feature, but downloading the "PSO2" side of the game is now optional if you play the Steam version. It chops 58GB off the total install size if you don't download it.

There's a load of other features and quests they've added over time that I can't remember off the top of my head. if you haven't played for a long time, I would recommend giving it another try, though pacing yourself is advised.

Valve just pulled a Blizzard and seems to have gotten away with it. ( kbin.social )

I find it odd there has been very little noise about this. Like sweet its awesome to see that there is a new Counter strike and the features they are adding seem awesome. People were very angry when Blizzard did this same exact thing, where is the anger right now about this?...

If CS:GO was preserved as a beta version in the game's properties that would be great. Apparently they are doing that now with some sort of replay player version but it's broken?

Is there a way to report an individual user? ( kbin.cafe )

There is a user who posted an irrelevant ad on a magazine I follow, so I clicked their profile to see if the rest of what they posted was spam too. It was. However, I didn’t find a report user option on their profile. Is there one anywhere? I know I can go through and report their individual posts, but I’d also like to flag...

Try using the contact link at the bottom of the kbin page. That'll send a message to the admin of the server you are on.

You can download audio from YouTube as 160kbps opus files, which aren't lossless sure but it's the highest quality you can get from YouTube if alternate means aren't an option.

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

For mp3 sure, but for opus standards 160kbps is great. I read that 128kbps is generally considered the most you need but 160kbps smooths over any artifacts, assuming the source file doesn't have them.

I get that searching can be a bit finicky sometimes but doesn't typing in a full username of a user you want to search for usually do the job?

That part about shutting down is something that https://joinmastodon.org/covenant tries to help with, where advance notice should be given and multiple people should have access to administrative actions. At least if the server has to shut down the users are given enough time to look at another server.

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

If you would like for your own posts to be reachable by the search system, all you have to do is go to Preferences > Public Profile > Privacy and Reach. Once there, check the box that says Include Public Posts in Search Engines.

I'm happy that this is opt-in for users, though something that would be good to know is how users on other instances (as well as platforms like Lemmy, Kbin, Misskey, etc.) are handled. I guess the search system would not handle these users?

@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

Kbin already provides feeds at the bottom of the page. For example, this magazine's is at https://kbin.social/rss?magazine=kbinMeta

To copy and paste my comment from another thread regarding down votes:

I never really saw the point of downvotes/reduces on Lemmy and Kbin. There isn't an equivalent of those actions on other Fediverse projects (except if you count reactions on Pleroma) and it causes problems like what you have described [in the thread the OP was describing being downvote bombed through no fault of their own].
I use the kbin enhancement script's option to hide the reduce button because I have no reason to touch it.

Reddit has downvotes as a means of rating down content that doesn't contribute to the discussion or is spammy, but it tends to be used as a lazy "I disagree" button that attracts bandwaggoning. Why put in the effort to explain why you disagree with something when you can just hit the down arrow and be done?

I do not know what the intended purpose of downvotes/reduces is here on Kbin. Is it a lazy disagree button or is it like what Reddit intends where comments and posts that don't contribute should be downvoted?

kbin.social has been unusably slow lately? ( kbin.social )

The front page seems to work alright most of the time but when I try to load any thread it either loads so slowly(sometimes like 30+ seconds) that I end up closing the page or I get hit with a Error 50x page that has been saying "Over the next few days, there will be a change in server infrastructure." for a long time....

I have noticed for the past week or so it can sometimes take a long time for a page to load. I don't get an error code but it can sometimes take about 10-15 seconds.

Alright, you know what? I'll be switching. ( kbin.social )

Hello there. I'm a beginner so keep that in mind. I have an old laptop (something like 10 yo). It has an HDD, 4 gigs of DDR3, an i3 4th gen 1.7 GHz and an NVidia Geforce 710M (Windows Game Ready Driver 391.35 WHQL which I think doesn't support Wayland). It also has CSM BIOS so yeah. It has the option of UEFI but the GeForce (I...

8GB of RAM for KDE Plasma should be more than enough. I'd say starting at 4GB and below that you'd run into problems. I'm saying this as somebody that has Firefox with several tabs, Libreoffice, two heavy electron apps, an email client and other miscellaneous bits and bobs open while only using just under 6GB of RAM.

Hopefully Kbin and Lemmy get this as a feature. Pleroma has it and it works with preventing your profile from being indexed.

What would be nice too is if remote profiles were prevented from being indexed too, both so search results aren't spammed with the same profile and for privacy reasons.

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

Being unable to see your posts and comments wouldn't do much as the user could just sign out of their account or use a private window and be able to see it again. Comments sections like this are publicly visible and indexable.

While I would love for the block feature to work how you describe, it only really works when creating an account takes effort and the comments aren't publically accessible. Blocked people not being able to reply to you would be a good start though.

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

Ah yeah, that is true.

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

There are people that like to keep up with minor version releases like this.

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

Looking at the existing moderation tools on kbin, I don't think locking exists on kbin yet? The ones I can see are "ban", "pin", "delete" marking as NSFW and changing the language.

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

There was also their Xcover 4 with a IP68 rating, removable battery and headphone jack. That phone was more designed for commercial purposes though, putting ruggedness first.

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

CSS does work - you can verify by selecting one of the "image" options and then saving. I don't know why yours will not work.

JavaScript doesn't work as far as I know.

Does kbin take advantage of image caching? Pages seem to newly load images each time the page is reloaded ( kbin.social )

I might not know what I'm talking about, but if they were cached on my browser I'd see them load instantly after loading once, right? But they take a bit to load each time when viewed on opera mobile....

I noticed this on Firefox mobile but not on Chromium mobile. In my case it includes profile pictures and the logo at the top of the page too.

This makes me wonder if adding some temporary restrictions to creating magazines here (based on account age or activity?) would be worth it to potentially help slow down ones like this being made (and to help slow down magazine squatting?).

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

Yeah I've only had this account for a few weeks. It just feels like brand new users have too much freedom I guess.

Destragras ,
@Destragras@kbin.social avatar

I've never used the official reddit app so I can't say how they've changed over time in there, but on old reddit, they used to be (or still are?) similar to other posts and appeared at the very top of the page. At least that way they were unobtrusive and you didn't get a giant image unless you clicked on it.
