DarthBueller ,

Actually the level of ignorance is easy to express, if you’re William Faulkner. There are vast swaths of humanity that are dumb as fucking rocks. It’s not polite to talk about but as someone involved in education admin, there are these kinds of parents EVERYWHERE. I’ve literally sat in disciplinary appeals where the parents try to explain that their child HAD to have a concealed dagger for protection. In a k-12 school with 400 kids total, no school resource officers/popo, no fights, highly involved parents, etc. Um, no, your child is expelled and I’m slightly terrified that they’ll shoot us up when they turn 20 and start going schizto.

DarthBueller ,

Trust me, my rural neighbors on all fucking sides of me aren’t hunting with the ARs they start shooting the fucking moment the get home from church on Sundays. And given the number of stray bullet incidents, they ain’t Boy Scouts either.

DarthBueller ,

I’ve got to say that the file explorer tabs are a great addition/comeback, and a vastly improved experience over the 90s incarnation where drag and drop was often hamstrung by system responsiveness (and could you even drag and drop to inactive tabs to activate them and bring them to the front back then? Don’t recall.) Using them in KDE Plasma at home , when i got a new win11laptop for work I was thrilled with many of the interface improvements. The telemetry and “widgets” are trash, though, as are the permanent ads in the windows context menu.

DarthBueller ,

As someone whose grandfather was a carpenter for Gillette in Massachusetts from after WWII until a few years before his death, I’ve got to say that while i use safety razors because of the price, I do get a far superior shave in less time with the “fuck everything it, we’re doing five blades” (basically the 3+ blades modern razors). I just don’t like having to take out a second mortgage for refills.

DarthBueller ,

If you use an electric beard trimmer to cut the long stubble down first it works better. Any razor does, but especially safety razors, since there’s only one cutting blade per side and when it’s clogged with longer hairs must be fully cleaned out for a perfect shave.

DarthBueller ,

Because the blades I get aren’t packaged this way. Is that a reusable outer package? I’ve never seen anything like that.

DarthBueller ,

I try to remember to use the old paper, but usually I despose of them in a cardboard toilet paper roll with one end pinched shut.

DarthBueller , (edited )

Yes, I’ve noticed it here and on Reddit. I’m like, you are supporting folks that think slavery is required by Islam and calling them freedom fighters? The hypocrisy is tangible.

DarthBueller ,

Don’t worry, so long as you say the magic word “intersectionality” it will be okay. It doesn’t matter if progressives spend all of our energy on shoehorning every issue into racism and identity so long as we say “it’s okay, bro - INTERSECTIONALITY.” See? Couldn’t you feel the magic happening?

DarthBueller ,

Are the mullahs still getting publicly disrespected and gunned down? That was epic, seeing those bloody effers getting a tiny taste of the brutality they’ve been doling out capriciously for the last 40 years. They’ve done wonders to make many Iranians go from marginally religious to adamantly anti-Islam, political or otherwise.

DarthBueller ,

Oh! So after forty years, it’s still the west’s fault? How many decades pass before a culture gets to own its own shitty behaviour?

DarthBueller ,

Because 40 years have passed without direct intervention in their government and they’re just as bad. Will you still blame the west for Iranian oppression in 50 years? 80? 100?

DarthBueller ,

All I know is that at some point, it goes from a valid criticism to a way to attack the US without giving ANY agency to the bad actors in Iran who have been far worse than the shah. Many many Iranians in Iran at this point consider the US and Israel allies in opposition. Downvote me straight to hell but it’s a fact.

United finds loose bolts on plug doors during 737 Max 9 inspections ( theaircurrent.com )

United Airlines has found loose bolts and other parts on 737 Max 9 plug doors as it inspects its fleet of Boeing jets following the Friday rapid depressurization aboard an Alaska Airlines jet of the same make, according to three people familiar with the findings....

DarthBueller ,

What do you mean Spirit manufacturers the airframe? Spirit is an airline, Boing is the manufacturer, right? I thought all Spirit does is maintenance.

DarthBueller ,

Awesome! Thanks for the clarification, I was clearly mixed up. And thanks to the downvoter who clearly dislikes idiots like me. :)

Iowa's Christian conservatives follow their faith when voting, and some say it leads them to Trump ( apnews.com )

“We thank you for the upcoming election, Lord — or caucus, as we call it in Iowa,” said Hundley, speaking from the sanctuary of his evangelical Christian church in his slight Texas drawl as his parishioners bowed their heads....

DarthBueller ,

There is no difference. They think there’s a difference. Got it backwards.

DarthBueller ,

He probably wouldn’t even know the word Christos. Since he was from the sticks and almost certainly monolingual.

DarthBueller ,

He certainly did not speak Hebrew as it was a dead language ant that point. Aramaic descended from Hebrew and was the spoken language. It’s like saying Italians speak Latin because they’re catholic and their language derives from Latin. We even have him speaking Aramaic on the cross. And if the false messiahs were as provincial as jesus they were illiterate. What is your source for “little Christs”?
Edit: and it goes without saying that christos is Greek, and while evangelicals like to say that jbird spoke koine, it’s wishful thinking intended to wave away textual inconsistencies.

Kellyanne Conway thinks Republicans can win back women in 2024 by saying, “We took away your abortion rights, but we’re letting you keep contraception” ( www.vanityfair.com )

Something you’ve probably heard by now is that the Republican Party’s decision to decimate reproductive rights—and celebrate the overturning of Roe v. Wade like it was the greatest thing to ever happen to America—has not gone over great with voters. The 2022 midterm elections, which were supposed to be a red tsunami for...

DarthBueller ,

I’m curious about why. The one law that had been overturned so far was on the basis of government compelled speech, because in addition to age verification, the law required porn sites to have a paragraph talking about how porn makes baby Jesus cry. I’m not so sure ID requirements by themselves are going to have the same outcome.

DarthBueller ,

Fucking Amy Galey. I hate that I have to be I around her and pretend that she’s the best thing since sliced bread. I wish people got to hear more about her talking at length about how great her family treated their slaves and less about her GOP silly season power moves.

DarthBueller ,

The right to privacy is now in question because of Dobbs. It’s a fucking nightmare of possibilities.

DarthBueller ,

Are you dumb? Or just not capable of understanding that some of us are in the legal world and think in terms of what the courts will do, and what rationale they will have? I didn’t stake out a position. However I absolutely think this legislation is terrible.

DarthBueller ,

Allahu’s Snackbar with a lifelike painting of Mohammed over the cash register and morality police, fuck yeah.

2013 Dell XPS i7-4470 up in this jawn.

DarthBueller ,

Elsewhere, Linux support areas seem more likely than not to have a large contingent of “WHY ARE YOU ASKING A DUMB QUESTION, you horror of a human being? Why didn’t you Search the site for words you don’t know using our broken search engine, instead of infecting us with your congenital idiocy?” folks.

DarthBueller ,

My ex-wife once got intestinal worms. The medicine to get rid of them, which has been on the market forever, and which is on the short list of medicines that the WHO says should be freely available to everyone as a matter of public health? $800 for Americans, literally free everywhere else in the world. Apparently intestinal worms are now so uncommon in the US that the drug is only distributed in extremely small quantities, which The Invisible Hand apparently allows big pharma to charge a fortune for. I brought in the worm in a jar in case the doctors needed to identify it, and apparently so many of the doctors and nurses had never seen one that they asked us if it was alright for them to pass around to take selfies with it. LOL.

DarthBueller ,

What term constituted “mastodon stuff” to prompt your comment? Haven’t yet tried mastodon so just curious.

How? I keep having to clear cookies. Now use Firefox. With logged in window I find the video I want and I open it in private window with ublock origin enabled. No warning in private logged out window.

DarthBueller ,

I’d say it’s come a long way since Windows 3.1 and the days before PnP, to the point that I can actually clear my print que, where not that long ago clearing your print que seemed to be an option MS offered to allow us to experience the rage that arises from unadulterated powerlessness. Hell, half the time it even switches default printers based on whether I’m at home or the office. Now, if Adobe could make it easier to distinguish from settings that will only work in the printer’s driver settings, vs. the Adobe application’s print settings, we’d be halfway out of perdition.

DarthBueller ,

The Muskovite purchasing Xitter (“X” being “sh” like in Chinese “xiao”) took Xitter private. It’s not “the market,” it’s “a handful of private investors.” Not trying to play semantic games but Xitter’s investors are not representative of an open market.

DarthBueller ,

Creating the projects by concentrating poverty into towers of terror is no better than having skid rows.

DarthBueller ,

I can honestly say I’ve never encountered this aphorism before. I feel like it’s something my junior high shop teacher would have said while I stared at him open-mouthed trying to parse the precise contours of the proverb.

DarthBueller ,

When did TNG become SNG? Just wondering if I missed a memo.

DarthBueller ,

That guy’s face is so red I’m surprised he hasn’t popped.

DarthBueller ,

PragerU is like barely removed from Nazi propaganda. It’s so fucking insidiously and evilly incorrect I can’t believe YouTube allows it at all. Fucking YouTube

DarthBueller ,

The issue is that you rely on fear to gain support. You can’t just say, “I’m opposed to illegal immigration, we need to police our borders better.” Many people are interested in regulated borders. But then many on your side make it clear hate is their motivator, playing the xenophobic line and saying shit like “because these sand n*$&ers are murderers, terrorists and rapists.” And those who aren’t saying shit like that are silent.

I’m not interested in importing deeply conservative religious people to this country that are going to threaten the societal shift toward a secular society, especially at the specific time the SCOTUS is giving religions special privileges. But by no means do I need to cultivate hate in my heart or others, unless I’m a fuck.

DarthBueller ,

Right - the US overton window is dramatically shifted to the right, and the discourse on here does not accept that as a given but rather as a subject of critical analysis.

DarthBueller ,

Sinking the Russian fleet would cost very few lives and have outsized benefits to Ukraine. Stop sucking Elon’s dick, bro.

DarthBueller ,

I hate war too, but Russia started a major war for internal political points, and now is enjoying the fruits of their miscalculated aggression. Their fleet should rightly be an artificial reef for the fish of the Black Sea. Musk should be prosecuted under the Logan Act and any other applicable law.

DarthBueller ,

There was a wave of tankie on Reddit and here during the reddexit. It was like, “where the fuck did stalin/mao/pol pot loving, atrocity denying weirdos come from en masse?” But you’re right the shock was bigger than the phenomenon.

DarthBueller ,

Spot the idealist.

DarthBueller ,

Native Americans made war with each other. It wasn’t an idea that was introduced to them by colonizers.
