USA Will Invest in High-Speed Train to Fight Climate Change ( www.raillynews.com )

USA Will Invest in High-Speed Train to Fight Climate Change::The USA Will Invest in High-Speed Train to Fight Climate Change - US President Joe Biden announced in a speech on December 9, 2023 that they are carrying out the first high-speed train projects in US history. These projects are across America

Even then it'll probably just be from one town to another very close by thus really only useable for a small subset of people. We need trans continental high speed railways not puddle jumpers

This. Only reason I use Brave is for my iPhone (which I am already planning to jump back to Android when it’s time for a new phone) because I can listen to YouTube videos/music in the background and no ads when going through the browser (another reason I’m going back to Android is for Revanced). Everything else is FF

And this is why things like pirating are not only acceptable but necessary. When companies lock services behind paywalls for products we should legally own, we are left with no recourse but to obtain the services we are owed illegally.

While the authenticity of this is dubious, I don’t think OP knows what a pyramid scheme is…

Look up MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) schemes if you need a reference point.

ColonelSanders ,
@ColonelSanders@lemmy.world avatar

Yup. Pirating is about filling a need where companies sorely lack in providing services. When a company provides a shitty service or offers no viable alternative to obtaining something I would gladly pay for, pirating bridges that gap.

X runs ‘timeline takeover’ ad promoting anti-trans film ( techcrunch.com )

Thursday on X (Twitter), all users saw the same pinned topic under the “What’s happening?” sidebar. As part of a “timeline takeover” — which gives advertisers “priority access to logged-in users’ first impression of the day” — conservative media nonprofit PragerU is promoting the hashtag “#DETRANS” to...

So, any news regarding a tech company is not, in your eyes, “tech news”?

ColonelSanders ,
@ColonelSanders@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not so much that they’re out of touch (though they are) as it is that they just don’t give a fuck. Any way to return a profit or bump the stock price a few cents is all that matters.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: We have a HUGE Apathy epidemic right now, and it mostly affects younger people (Gen Z on down mostly but some younger millennials too). I think this is mostly because they were born too late to realize that things don’t actually have to be this way and could in fact be better if people just…tried. But they’ve been beaten down and had the phrase “that’s just how it is/always been” beaten into them so much that they just stopped caring.

“I’m like everyone else here, I run Linux…”

Erm, did you just assume my OS?

ColonelSanders ,
@ColonelSanders@lemmy.world avatar

Potentially unpopular opinion: This analogy implies that the impoverished are a threat to politicians and rich people, yet sadly I feel like today’s society will/would never fight back. We have a major apathy problem among younger millennials and younger gens I’ve noticed.

I’m honestly high right now but I can guarantee I’d still want to try that sober

Happened to me. Got laid off from my dream job and my manager was holding back tears as much as I was.

I felt bad for him for awhile, but ultimately realized he was still the one that chose me over others to let go just because I was last in the door (nevermind that I uprooted and moved halfway across the country for that job).

ColonelSanders ,
@ColonelSanders@lemmy.world avatar

Eventually, yes. But I’ll be damned if I don’t give it my all to go as deep as possible before it’s necessary.

Yeah I just tried to log in at Kbin (hooray for accounts on multiple instances!) and saw that it is expected to be back up by 20:00 UTC? But…it’s currently 20:11 UTC so I’m guessing it’s taking a little longer than expected.

A better way is to store only who has voted. No need to store how they have voted.

Unfortunately, as they mentioned it would still need to know which way they voted so one can “unvote” or change their vote.
