There’s a cracked Diablo 4 available and it’s “online only”. There are still bugs they’re working on but as far as I know it’s fully playable from start to finish.

Hollywood to UK Govt: Investigating Pirates "Increasingly Difficult" * TorrentFreak (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Summary: A recent UK government inquiry into the challenges faced by the film and high-end television industry has recently received submissions from major Hollywood studios advocating for KYC (know your customer) rules for hosting providers, similar to banking regulations to identify money laundering. If adopted, this would...

You realize it’s even easier to pirate a game, play it without worrying about a time limit, and purchase it later if I like it?

The only games I haven’t pirated to try before buying are games that have a demo available.

CileTheSane ,

Haven’t had any issues like that in decades. It’s pretty easy to find trusted sources and not download shady looking files.

I use Facebook Container which isolates any webpage that connects with facebook from the rest of my tabs. It also has separate containers for things like work, shopping, etc you can optionally use for whatever.

It’s very convenient to just open a “shopping” container tab to check my spam email address instead of opening a private window and needing to sign in each time.

After completing a settlement you can choose to continue playing it.

It’s a Rougelite Citybuilder with a demo that lets you play the actual game (only limits your max level and what biomes you can play in). That’s all it took to get me in.

Make sure you have housing for everyone, upgrade your hearth, and unassign your woodcutters during Storm.

Citadel upgrades for essential blueprints of race specific housing and field kitchen will help keep resolve up in the early game.

Cornerstones the reduce hostility will help a ton in the mid to late game.

Edit: And don’t open a glade unless you have a reason to. Every glade you open increases the hostility level.

Personally I don’t open small glades unless I have a cornerstone that triggers off it or my humans or foxes have seen something there. I’ll spend the first 2 years building up my initial settlement, then start of drizzle year 3 break open a dangerous glade for those sweet event rewards. I’ll continue to open a dangerous glade every year or two afterwards depending on how things are going.
Much like how once you get comfortable with the difficulty level it’s time to increase it, once you feel comfortable with how your settlement is running it’s time to open a dangerous glade.

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

I’m not convinced there are “unwinnable” settlements. They might be unwinnable for me at my current skill level, but there are people who play at Prestige 20 who I’m sure couldn’t possibly lose at the difficulty I’m playing at regardless of what RNG throws at them.

Oh you must be new. There’s always an “in group” and an “out group”. If somehow everyone is in the “in group” the rules change to create a new “out group”.

It makes me not want to play the mod for their manipulative use of the word in their advertising.

You think they’re trying to trick you into

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

I was surprised to see another Portal game being announced, but finding out it’s a fan-made mod actually has me more interested.

Fan-mods are where you can see some neat shit because they’re not trying to maximize profits, they’re just trying to make something cool.

I like how you replied without actually addressing what I said, nor emphasizing what it is I “missed”. Seems kind of pointless, no?

CileTheSane ,

Not my job to make your argument for you. I made my response based on what you said. If you want to reword or emphasize something relevant go ahead. Otherwise it just sounds like “No, you, um totally misunderstood me! Ya, that’s it! I’m not going to tell you how though, just keep re-reading it until you agree with me!”

So instead of buying Twitter, not touching it for a year, and then shutting it down because it’s “not profitable” he would rather people think he’s incompetent?

Either he’s an idiot man-child who shouldn’t be allowed to be put in charge of anything, or he wants people to think he’s an idiot man-child who shouldn’t be allowed to be put in charge of anything. Either way I’m happy to oblige.

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

He could have just done nothing with the company, hired someone to put in charge and say “you have a year to make Twitter profitable”, and when that inevitably fails shut it down.

He didn’t have to tank his reputation. All the time he’s spending running Twitter into the ground he could have instead done nothing, and still shut it down in the same time frame for being “not-profitable”. Enough time would have passed for him to get away with it, and would have lost less money in the process.

So even if his plan is to destroy Twitter, he’s still an idiot doing it in the dumbest way possible.

And when I’m paying for the privilege of getting ads.

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s a reason for developers to use them, not for consumers to use them.

EPICs anti-customer practices (such as trying to make everything exclusive) are reasons for consumers not to use them.

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

But you can always load up an EGS game in Steam as a non-Steam game and have full access to Steam Input on it that way, so why would Epic spend time and effort re-inventing the wheel when they have other priorities?

Why would Epic implement a feature when I could just run Epic games through Steam? Why don’t I just use Steam then?

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

So still not an argument for giving Epic any of my money.

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

And are those because Steam is trying to pressure them into being exclusive on Steam? Or did they just not bother releasing anywhere else?

If a developer just wants to release on Epic and nowhere else they can do that. My issue comes from Epic approaching games that have already announced a Steam release asking for exclusivity, and having no interest in hosting the game if they don’t accept the exclusivity offer.

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

Well you sound like someone trying to have a good faith discussion and attempting to continue would be a good use of my time.

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

As I said.

(The linked article is about Epic)

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

“it exists” is not enough reason to use something.

If I start an online store that charges twice as much as Steam and has none of the features are you going to purchase from it just because It’S cOmPeTiTioN tO StEaM’s MoNoPoLy?

CileTheSane ,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

So we agree that it’s unreasonable to purchase from a store that provides worse service just because it exists or to “promote competition”.

EPICs anti-customer practices (such as trying to make everything exclusive) are reasons for consumers not to use them.

Not being able to apply for copyright doesn’t prevent you from getting charged for infringement.

“I made it with AI, it’s not copyrightable” is the 2023 version of uploading a show to Youtube and adding in the details “I do not claim Copyright on this material. All Copyrights belong to their respective holders”. It’s still illegal even if you don’t claim to own it.

Reddit also had the ability to just type in my address bar “/r/obscurefandom” and be taken directly to the subreddit for it. Lemmy doesn’t have those smaller subs yet and you have to hunt for the right instance if it does.

CileTheSane ,

Reddit will have active subs for specific board games. The general board games magazine on Lemmy has 1 post a month.

So ya, if I want to read comments on the latest episode of Loki to see what things people picked up on that I missed Reddit is currently the only place to find that.
