It’s much better than what I observe with people around me, I would have guessed about 10%

I would expect there to be some tools that fixes Windows, for instance I got annoyed at the start menu and switched to an alternative.

Or else there were some super slim win2k3 images (~200mb), I hope there’s some slim win 10/11 images available?

Google just placed one more token on the de-google my phone bin.

Funny you can go from magnanimous corp to greedy corp in a few short years.

Just remember they pay 20 Billion dollars every year to Apple just to be the default browser!

And then they reduce my allowed storage, make YouTube explode in ads, while they cancel products. It must be rough times for the little mega corp.

Married With Childrens last episode aired in 1997 so it was in recent memory, and I’m sure you could watch a rerun of MWC same day this episode aired (March 19, 2000).

Thanks to RAM Doubler and DoubleSpace you won’t feel the difference.

Edit: I had forgotten that it was first called Stacker before MS copied/reverse engineered it and sold it as DoubleSpace.

It would be funny if the ad blocking community just ignored this, and focused on removing FB tracking on external sites.

The saiyan viewpoint, just wait until the weights come off!

Linux way way slower than Windows?

So I jumped ship from Windows to Kubuntu last night, and It’s mostly been pretty good. However my general performance of the computer has been abysmal. Like it takes upwards of 5 seconds to open anything. All of my hardware seems to be running at max speeds, so I have no idea why it would be so sluggish? It’s as if I’m...

When you know it’s overheating, you could as well try and remove dust, with some compressed air. It can’t hurt.

Edit: Actually there’s plenty other that thinks this could be a combo of software and hardware, so my point is still valid.

Check your hardware if you start getting overheating problems.

Sorry I should have started my comment with a disclaimer that I absolutely know it’s a software problem but. It’s always prudent to ensure against crud buildup inside the computer.

In the good old DOS days I used Norton Commander, when I need to look through the directory structure on a server it’s easier with Midnight Commander.

I like to rewatch Miyazaki, when I need some feel good movies.

And sometimes I start humming the score for Dune 1984, and then I know it’s time for a rewatch.

YouTube is axing its ad-free Premium Lite subscription plan - The Verge (www.theverge.com)

I was happily using this for a year or so now. Feels fairer than using an ad blocker. But now they apparently want more money out of people. Feels like some sort of internet video apocalypse is happening, where the services become extremely fragmented and expensive, like YouTube, netflix, hbo, Hulu, Disney+ and whatnot. Each...

Yes, but we keep hoping something better will show up, it’s just taking way too long.

I think something like Reddit/Lemmy needs to happen to YouTube, the content creators are just not at that point yet.

Did we kill Linux's killer feature?

A few years ago we were able to upgrade everything (OS and Apps) using a single command. I remember this was something we boasted about when talking to Windows and Mac fans. It was such an amazing feature. Something that users of proprietary systems hadn’t even heard about. We had this on desktops before things like Apple’s...

Lemmy looks like that with some of the filters, to avoid that you can.

  • Use a different filter: All - Top 6hrs
  • Block bots
  • Use own subscriptions.

Yeah if you manage to get it hanging safely, how will it ever be anything else than decoration? It’s not a 20 lbs racing bike.

For it to be usable you would need some mechanism to raise and lower it, and then the decoration aspect will go.

Could be OP is a sheep dog? Or a yeti?

Or if OP is a furry I suggest not to shower in the costume (or what furries call their suits?)

Accent colors are now a standard preference for Linux (github.com)

Accent colors provide a way for users to personalize their desktop in a simple, developer-friendly, and effective way. Throughout the community there has been a general interest in the inclusion of accent colors within apps and desktop environments. This proposal aims to standardize an accent color key on the Settings portal....

BeigeAgenda ,
@BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca avatar

Yep Linus got embarrassed that this feature has been missing all these years, so now you can get custom accents on kernel panics.
