Sure, push a known malware free vpn service while bashing a service that is very well known and respected.

Proton has opened sourced everything so far and I would expect them to do that here. They have whole pages written on why they open source everything and why that helps privacy.

Have you ever looked at MS’s business plan over their lifetime? This is nothing new.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

No, it means they haven’t investigated them. If they had they would include them on the list and tell you the details.

Bluesky now has a large swath of scientists now. Many of the big names. They have their own federated area in that ecosystem. I think most have been going to all of the alternatives and finding what works best for them. I’ll wait to see where they settle to decide which really gained the most.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Not sure what KDE is but you can install KES in a scripts manager on several browsers and under threads there is a hide posts option. Turn that on and you can click the hide button

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

This isn’t speaking towards the login issue we all experience, but as far as reentering your password, you should have a password manager that you use. That should enter the password easily with minimal effort from you.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

It’s worth getting a good one, not that I’m not a fan of Firefox, but the stand alone ones work really well these days. Everyone has their favorite, I’m currently using 1password because I get the family version for free from another service; but I’ve used most of them and they’re all pretty similar.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

I have a router based service that blocks ads and has a bunch of security features. Part of the service, is a subscription to 1password and a vpn service. I happily use 1password and I buy my own vpn. They just switched vpn providers so I need to look them up, but I will still keep my current vpn since it’s tied to email and a bunch of services.

Her Wikipedia page is wild.

Things like:

Her father introduced her and her brother to photography while doing several stereoscopic photographs of her naked while teaching her the art of photography.

She almost stepped in front of a car in Manhattan, but was saved by Condé Nast, the publisher of vogue. This launched her modeling career and was one of the most popular models for a couple years.

Her modeling career was derailed when someone illegally used her picture to sell menstrual pads (oh the innocent roaring ‘20s of the twentieth century).

Fashion designers then hired her to design fashion since she was a good artist.

This lady needs a good book written about her life. It’s crazy and wonderful.

@ArtemisApp is in beta right now. @hariette has been hard at work. I look forward to trying it soon. Hopefully. I’m not on discord, and that’s where most people are getting beta.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

I’m on the form. Been on there for a bit. Mostly I like pointing out that an app is being actively developed for kbin, and that I have never used it so I cannot tell you more.

I think lemmy people should know that @hariette has previously stated that Artemis will work there too. At least, I’m pretty sure they said that. Children have turned my brain to mush and my memory is about as reliable as a 3 year old.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

They totally miss that kbin federates with lemmy and mastodon whereas Lemmy doesn’t microblog. Also, the list 4chan as a Reddit alternative and 4chan is a cesspool.

Some of the issues brought up in your link are being answered in KES, which brings a whole world of functionality for browsing and interacting with kbin.

Kbin Enhancement Suite (KES) now working on iOS ( kbin.social )

Hi kbin users. @shazbot has been working on resolving iOS issues today, and I can tell you that it now works. I'm just a user and know nothing of the scripting these people are doing. I just understand plug and play, along with various settings of apps on my phone. So, for all iOS users you can now enjoy KES settings....

Follow the directions in this post and the directions for Userscripts for iOS. It’s important to do the Userscripts download and setup before getting the KES script.

1chemistdown OP ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Are you beta on iOS? Like @shazbot stated, go into the hamburger menu from left side top and look for the wrench in there. When they first got it working, it could be hidden depending on color scheme chosen inside kbin settings, but they fixed that.

Regular tab. @shazbot has placed a low priority ticket for the pin to home page web app like feature, but it may be due to iOS sandboxing that web application and out of their hands. They know about it.

1chemistdown OP ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

I don’t see a picture

1chemistdown OP ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

First, Userscripts is an app. You install the KES script through the Userscripts extension inside safari

1chemistdown OP ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

No picture on my end. Are you using the web app feature or are you in Safari proper.

1chemistdown OP ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

I know why I couldn’t see the picture. I had KES set to hide thumbnails

1chemistdown OP ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

You made sure to get the latest update of KES, right? If you have an old version you need to update it inside Userscripts through the safari extension. Or get for git. https://github.com/aclist/kbin-kes/releases/tag/2.0.7

1chemistdown OP ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

That could work.

Anyone else still kinda miss Reddit? ( kbin.social )

Maybe I just miss Reddit is Fun, not Reddit, but I still have RiF installed (I just can't delete it) and it still "works". I can't sign in or participate, but fuck I miss browsing everything. I've definitely replaced it with Kbin, but opening the RiF app just gives me sadness. Fuck spez.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Kbin federates with Lemmy and mastodon. Lemmy has more users so more people voting up things there, but a lot of that front page is posted from kbin. Devs are not focusing on lemmy unless they’re Lemmy people. There are devs focusing on kbin too. We now have an active kbin enhancement suite going, just like RES used to be for reddit. So customizing how you interact with fedi is more in your control. Artemis app is being done by @hariette, and beta users are super happy with it.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Around June 10, a massive influx of reddit refuges hit the fediverse in a giant migration that nocked out massive parts of the fediverse. Kbin activated cloudflare, beehaw went to application mode, several lemmy instances went down, mastodon had a huge influx.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Instances with a few hundred to a few thousands users where getting hit with several thousand people per day. Kbin.social went from 400 to a couple thousand to 50k in ~7 days. @ernest was scrambling and did a great job for a one person show. Super happy he has help now. Need to buy that guy a beer.

Beehaw was a few people, one or two with minor dev experience, and they were hammered. Kbin.social defederated and several lemmy instances were hit with bot attacks. It was chaos.

Why can't I find and subscribe to a certain Lemmy instance? [SOLVED] ( kbin.social )

Hi guys, kbin noob here. Usually I don't have much trouble subscribing to Lemmy communities from kbin especially if they're on the main Lemmy world instance, but I noticed that when I try to subscribe to https://awful.systems/c/sneerclub, I can't seem to find it in search....

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Try changing the /c/ to /m/. Lemmy use /c and kbin uses /m

YSK: Sometimes fostering just doesn't work out.

I’ve been fostering a family member for a month or so, and it all came to a head today. My wife and I tried, but the behavior was just too much for us to feel safe with our existing children. I hate that we’re giving up and I hate the circumstances that caused this, but it is what it is. If you’re in the same place please...

Now I don’t believe you. There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

Holy shit @ChristianSelig

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

I did, it shortened it when I hit add comment. If you press on my @ it should go to mastodon. At least from my end it does.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Anyone who thinks that any meta subsidiary is not trying to gain every piece of information on you and everyone around you is delusional. They want every detail. Do you masterbate? How often? To what? Partners? Cis/trans/nb, het/gay/bi/poly? Where do you do it? How often? Then meta asks, how can we make money off this knowledge and extract every penny. But one of their board members gets outed and it’s all out war, metaphorically speaking.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Not a rumor, just they announced it. Cash for high profile posts. Kinda like Elon paying all that cash to human rights trafficker, rapist, and all around disgusting human Andrew Tate, for bringing in advertising revenue one day before announcing that they have lost over 50% of advertisers on their platform.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Kbin federated with Mastodon and lemmy

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar
1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Also, here is a good place to check out.

But the term you might be looking for is federated. Each platform has its own lexicon for what it stands for and how to interact. Is pictures, videos, content aggregation, microblogging, blogging, etc. there are more than 1200 and each has its own internal language and how users refer to it. No different than facebook, Twitter, instagram, blogger, blogspot, MySpace, …, etc. But, they all run on activitypub, which is an agreed upon format for things. The various forms are new and developing, so every form of social interaction is different in how they refer to themselves.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

The fediverse (a portmanteau of "federation" and "universe") is an ensemble of federated (i.e. interconnected) servers that are used for web publishing (i.e. social networking, microblogging, blogging, or websites) and file hosting, which, while independently hosted, can communicate with each other.

Kbin gets you Lemmy and mastodon. I say go for it.

Have you had any bad experiences with people on Kbin yet? Can we do better than Reddit culture? ( lemmy.world )

However, when reddit crapped the bed, by comparison, the threadiverse basically didn’t have an established culture. There was a handful of lemmy instances (we were one of them), but the only one of notable size was lemmy.ml. kbin didn’t even exist in any meaningful way until a couple of months before reddit died....

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

The only bad experience I’ve had on kbin are the updates messing with my logins.

But in a serious note, the three user I’ve gone to report have already been kicked off by the time I’ve tried reporting them to @ernest. For that, I’m thankful. But that is on the .social. Also, I’ve not been super active since middle of the week due to a food poisoning situation. So, maybe I missed a bunch of recent activity.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Good news, just like Reddit enhancement suite, kbin has kbin enhancement suite going. Why don’t you ask them if they can do this.

@enhancement

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

@Prouvaire

Yes, Hariette has been super responsive to the community. They’re a fan of Apollo and they’re trying to bring that same community interaction between users and their development of the app. Looking forward to it.

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

I really wonder what @ChristianSelig thinks of this

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

Nope, public school

1chemistdown ,
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

The irony, to me, is that town is liberal now. The surrounding county is super maga but the city is all hippie liberal. But as a child, this Colorado town was Texas red. Don’t spend money on education because we need a better high school football stadium type of town.
