Using GNOME Flashback makes Ubuntu more customizable!! (lemmy.world)

I had a lot of fun customizing it, the best part of GNOME Flashback? Well, it doesn’t mess my main Ubuntu desktop environment, in fact, both DE look very similar and have the same icons!! Only “Main Menu” was installed but it only affects GNOME Flashback. I love GNOME and Ubuntu so much.

please help me, why is this happening?? (lemmy.world)

I’m currently installing Puppy Linux on an old computer, and everything is working fine, the resolution of the boot selections were looking ok, but the moment Puppy Linux boots the GUI, this happens!!! And I tried resizing from the GRUB terminal but it doesn’t work, please help me, thank you!!

thank you but I don’t have the manual, there is no information about this monitor online, I’m currently in BIOS, it’s American Megatrends. https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/455f58f2-6fcf-4017-afef-532495b76a82.jpeg

there’s no setting for that, the only settings are really basic ones!! I will change the resolution from GRUB then, maybe that will work.

01adrianrdgz OP ,

thank you so much!!!

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

no, I’m sorry about that, I’m currently flashing Xubuntu and maybe that will work too!!

100% vanilla distribution challenge

what does this consist of? Well, it’s easy, whenever you install a new distribution of Linux, don’t customise anything, nothing please!! Out of the box experience, you may install software but that’s all. And if you are already using a customised distro, then delete the .config file and reboot, but please be careful and...

should my next browser installed be Microsoft Edge?? (lemmy.world)

I have installed the big 2 browsers on my Ubuntu!! I love them!! I use Google Chrome more of course n.n but I was wondering if I should get Edge now, I like the cute design + AI integration, but I don’t think it’s necessary because I already have Chromium, which is just the baseline for Edge, but still it could be a nice...

@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

ok thank you so much!! Yes I understand it’s a matter of personal preference and that’s ok. I remember when I used to configure a lot of settings on Firefox to avoid being harmed by other people :c but anyway, I like Edge, but well I can’t install Edge on a Chromebook so I need to get used to Chrome, I could install Firefox on Chromebook since both Google and Firefox are friends n.n

how can I change Ubuntu to have default settings (everything, apps, icon size, color, etc) without losing any other software or files??

I recently became interested in using operating systems or software in the most vanilla way possible!! Without changing anything, just getting new files and other stuff. I’ve changed a lot of things from Ubuntu (for example uninstalling Rhythmbox and getting VLC) and I honestly want all the Ubuntu GNOME vanilla software back,...

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

that worked :3 thank you very much, I will not touch anything now. (Except installing new apps)

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

it works in all of them, even Amiga if you have Python 3.10.12 installed!!

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

yes even those!! But maybe you would need to update drivers and install Python 3.10.12.

I love KDE a lot but if I’m honest, I dislike that they posted that… That wasn’t kind of them and it was rude to Microsoft!!! I wouldn’t insult them (“ditch Windows for good”), well, Microsoft has been using and including Linux too!! So both should be fine and friends.

does Google severly dislike Firefox??

with the recent news about the things that were said about Google slowing down Firefox on purpose, are they doing this because they severily dislike Firefox/open source? :c If so, that wouldn’t make a lot of sense!!! Because Google loves open source too. I read they were doing this to stop adblockers, and well if you use...

I understand your point of view, but I believe that unlike smokes, Google software doesn’t biologically harm you, and by the way… it’s a nuanced conversation, there are layers to be talked about!! I’m very sorry but I understand.

I like Google but I capitalize all names… and anyway I use Firefox sometimes too!! I think Google does make very nice things. And about the Dragonfly project… well, they were honestly just trying to give the chinese market a better search engine, but it was a good action of Google to stop it because it would have been used badly!! n.n By the way, I use Duckduckgo on Chrome.

I wish I was paid, why would they pay me?? I’m not a popular person, and either way, while I do enjoy and I’m a fan of Google, my main stuff is software and technology, and Python :3

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

excuse me?? I’m being honest and truthful, I’m not being paid, and if I ever get paid by Google, it will be because I’ll be working in their offices!! By the way I also have Mastodon, Telegram, and Matrix. So I can’t be paid… And by the way that kid has achieved great things!! That’s very good for that person.

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

I’m very sorry if my impression was that one :c I don’t want to harm or offend anyone, and yes, I do know some of their obscure projects but that doesn’t mean that I also have to know everything about other stuff. But thank you for that criticism n.n

would it be illegal to download Ubuntu on a Chromebook?

what if I, for example, had a job in Google and I liked Linux so much I install Ubuntu on my Chromebook, would that be illegal/send me to prison?? Or, if I had the job, would I be kicked?? I like Chromebooks because they are so smol and nice. But I don’t know if it’s legal to install a Linux distro on it. Thank you!!

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

I know ChromeOS is Linux but I want Ubuntu, but if I’m honest, I would be ok with only using ChromeOS!!

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

breaking the DRM content and breaking the boot, which is illegal in my country :c

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

why would I be a troll? I’m sorry, but I’m just saving money for a Chromebook, they are cheap and nice and I can use them for Python!!

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

ok thank you, I have been visiting Tkinter forums and guides and also how to download Flatpak, and that has been so nice. I’m very sorry for asking a lot but I want to be part of the community!!! n.n And by the way I’m not young, I’m 20 so I have lived a life c:

can I be a Free Software advocate but still use non-free software??

I’m asking this because one time, while browsing the GNU website, I noticed that some of the members’ emails had “gmail” on them!! And I asked myself how would that be possible?? And I think other members of the FSF had Gmail too. Why? Richard Stallman is against Gmail, so why would those memberse use it?? Would that...

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

but Richard Stallman himself uses a completely free (libre) laptop and even his GNU/Linux distro is 100% free, so he is living by his example!! But ok, can I still use Discord and promote free software?? Woa >u<

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

ok thank you, I understand!! What matters is promoting libre software!! ^u^ By the way, Richard Stallman doesn’t say open source.

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

thank you, you’re right, I love open source, I will contribute to it. And by the way, this is an extreme opinion, but Discord is an open source hybrid!! It’s mostly open source but it’s got proprietary blobs.

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

but older videogames were extremely proprietary… like NES or Sega… So it would be something different.

01adrianrdgz ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

will it affect Linux Chrome too?? Oh no!!

01adrianrdgz ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

ok thank you!! I will update my extensions then.

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

I love Ubuntu so much :3 and I’m very happy that Canonical has worked with Microsoft and Google, Linux is becoming a liked kernel and operating system!! ^u^

does Temu use any open source software?

it would be good to know if they use it, I know it doesn’t indicate they are open source (which, most online stores aren’t), but if they use any open source library, or api, etc, do they credit them correctly? (for example using software licensed under BSD, etc). That can be a way of knowing if they are stealing other...

Google and major mobile carriers want Europe to regulate Apple's iMessage platform (www.engadget.com)

The long fight to make Apple’s iMessage compatible with all devices has raged with little to show for it. But Google (de facto leader of the charge) and other mobile operators are now leveraging the European Union’s Digital Market Act (DMA), according to the Financial Times. The law, which goes into effect in 2024, requires...

finally!! i’ve seen how google has been treating the situation with apple and i kind of think apple does have a bit of dislike-bias for android because it’s open source and linux. well, i hope apple stops the green message bubble feature.
