aniki , (edited ) in Mishaal Rahman: Android's Virtualization Framework seems to be getting GPU support.

has anyone successfully gotten an x86 android emulator to run? I tried to setup Waydroid a while ago but it never loaded.

[e] oops -- this is for emulation ON Android not OF Android.

aluminium ,

There are videos of people playing old ges on Box64 / Box32 with winlator... so I guess yes.

SpaceNoodle , in Mishaal Rahman: Google is preparing to fully remove support for non-A/B updates from Android, leaving A/B updates as the only officially supported OTA update mechanism moving forward.

Not just seamless, but safer updates as well. A failed boot from the newly updated partition(s) can be detected with the malfunctioning slot flagged by the lower-level bootloader, allowing for an instantaneous rollback.

This could break devices that are older

db2 ,

Older devices wont break unless you force install without creating the necessary filesystem partition layout first. Depending on how you define older that might only be a small hurdle. If you define it as a device designed for Android 4 you're likely gonna have a bad time.

SpaceNoodle ,

TBF it's a major PITA to redo the partition table like this, if even at all possible given the extant layout. This was introduced with Nougat, though, with major chip vendors like Qualcomm ready with support in their BSPs right out of the gate back in 2016. I think eight years is enough time to let everyone get themselves up to speed.

AbidanYre ,

How many devices are that old but still getting updates?

My 6 year old OP6 has A/B partitions.

evo , in Pixel Fold 2 Renders

Again, I think the change of aspect ratio is a step in the wrong direction. :/

helenslunch ,

People always claim these devices are always great for media consumption without realizing that the aspect ratio makes it so that half the screen goes completely unused while watching media.

Drinvictus , in Pixel Fold 2 Renders

Looks amazing

EarMaster , in Pixel Fold 2 Renders

The color choices are interesting. White or three different kinds of black (okay one is a greenish black)...

sabreW4K3 , in Pixel Fold 2 Renders

The corners seem too curved.

atrielienz , in Use Google Assistant to summarize messages on Android Auto

I know that android and IOS both have features for blind and hard of hearing people that may be possible to implement with assistant to help with this? I don't know if it would summarise exactly though

I was thinking of something like audio description but it only seems to work with movies and tv and only if they support it.

LiveLM , in Mishaal Rahman: The Google Play Store is A/B testing a new feature that uses AI to generate "App Highlights".

Oh so it'll just hallucinate some random feature the app doesn't actually have?
Who even needs this, app descriptions generally already have bullet points with the main features anyway.

Vash63 , in Google pulls Android 15 DP1 OTA images due to corruption issue

So... Third major data loss update in the last 6 months?

LiveLM ,

I mean, it's a Developer Preview.
If someone is installing these without expecting things to go wrong sometimes that's entirely on them.

Vash63 ,

The last one was on a QPR beta, and the one before that was on the A14 stable launch version.

This case is definitely more understandable but after 2 worse ones it's still a bad look.

turbulentMagma ,

A Developer Preview should allow Developers to Preview it, not brick the device.

This should have been caught internally before release.

limerod ,

At this point

spoiler

(even for preview builds)

you are doing this to yourself. Knowing Google's rich software history and all.
daq , in Introducing the OnePlus Watch 2 - Your Partner in Time!

Oneplus support is worse than useless and they do not stand behind their products. But I've had several OP phones and they worked just fine. They are definitely better on paper than they actually are.

I'd still consider this watch if it had android pay.

Surprise? Not really

wolfruff , in ZTE Libero Flip launches as a particularly affordable foldable with a round secondary display and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

The circular display is hideous. Ill stick with my motorola razr+

PlutoniumAcid ,

Yeah, ugh. Anything to be different but that is not helping.

BetaDoggo_ , in ZTE Libero Flip launches as a particularly affordable foldable with a round secondary display and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

The ~400USD price tag is really impressive, but the big thing with these folding phones is the reliability of the hinge. It will be interesting to see how it fares when proper reviews come in.

Ilandar ,

Reviews won't give a definitive answer on the durability of the hinge. The average reviewer doesn't spend anywhere near long enough with a smartphone to have any worthwhile opinion on its durability, and even the people who do these hinge tests on YouTube have no real idea. You cannot accurately predict these things after just a few days of rudimentary testing.

helenslunch , in Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra launch - March 14

RIP Zenfone. The one thing you had going for you, Asus fucked it up.

helenslunch , in Mishaal Rahman: The Google Play Store is A/B testing a new feature that uses AI to generate "App Highlights".

Most app descriptions are only a couple of sentences long in the first place...
